They could have doen another album with Institutionalizedn retakes but hey went harder with better production. Its still Suicidal and its pretty good. Better than Join the Army.

Dealing with It is probably one of the best hardcore records ever but I don't really think of it as "crossover". The real metal stuff didn't come into play until the Crossover record. It was just insanely fast and on Metal Blade records.

most people who dismiss bands when they go metal are young kids with fickle taste at best or old fogeys who can't couldn't fathom musicians actually progressing.

i will say that the first suicidal is the most essential of their albums, but "how will i laugh" was probably their peak as far as music and lyrics. it's a very emotional album with lyrics i'm sure a lot of high school kids (and beyond) can probably relate to. and it has some of the best melodic riffs of a thrash album during that time. and rocky's wailing horse braying leads?! fuck yeah!

i'm sure the funk influence on this album turned/will turn some people off, but it fit in perfectly with the way a lot of people's tastes were going at the time (similar to crossover). and "you can't bring me down", "lonely" and "get whacked" are awesome songs devoid of funk.

i know nowadays punk and metal have grown into all different (mostly horrible) directions, but at the time this was daring, unique stuff. and i still listen to this album a lot.

Agree 100%. I remember randomly hearing a bunch of their albums over the years. never really liked em. then my old co-worker insisted that i buy the first s/t album. "I shot reagan", etc... every song on that album rocks. Pure hardcore/punk. Classic album. Wished I bought it when i was 16 instead of 23.

In high school a friend of mine with clown hair, an old school skateboard and GWAR shirts shwoed me Still Cyco on tape and I really dug it, so I got a used tape of Lights Camera, and I remember thinking, what the fuck is this crap? Is this the same band?

More like 8/10.

...but I remember seeing the "You can't bring me down video" on muchmusic's Power Hour or Power 30 when it first came out. I recorded it and watched that way too many times, over and over.

ST's albums always had a heavy dose of thrash

This going to make me sound old, but for it's time this album was brilliant. It bridged the gap for me from crappy cheese metal like Ratt to the Bosstones and Lagwagon.

i would go with DRI because the macho crips gangbanger b.s. of ST went a little far, though i do still really like ST (s/t specifically).

No competition, Dealing With It. Of course you could've listed 99.999% of all albums ever released and my answer would be the same.

first 2 suicidal albums were great. this one was not so great.

In the reviewer's defense, this album was very well received outside of the punk community.

I assumed this review was a joke. Especially the lyrical quote after stating how clever Mike Muir's lyrics are on this album.

This album blows. Actually, everything after the first album is terrible. Join the Army has about 2 good songs tops.

The first two ST albums are the only ones worth bothering with.
1st Album straight up hardcore with hints of metal
2nd album crossover thrash
3rd Album onwards, Thrash Metal= Boredom.

what a fucked up wrong review. the 4 early albums are thrash and are the best. i cant beleive some one said otherwise on a punk site. you would think they are writing for a metal site. but im not surprised since the reviewers are all kids and didnt live thru these records. these days the kids only like the radio friendly stuff. that is why all reviews by kids eat shit. like this one. idiot.

Atrocious record. The only record post-s/t worth getting is "Still Cyco"- and that's just because it's such a great comedy record!

Yeaj, I think this was their attempt to gain fans from the metal kids and Faith No More fans, it worked quite well.

kinda surprised this got a 10. yeah it was well received critically, but even Muir doesn't seem to dig this era much. I thought their self-titled/Still Cyco or even How WIll I Laugh Tomorrow was their most enduring work.

Rocky George is so underrated. Good thing he landed on his feet with Fishbone. Seems fitting to me.

This album was my first exposure to ST, still a decent record, but not as good as the ones before it. That being said, I've always wanted to go to a Suicidal show wearing a suit just to see if I could provoke Mike Muir iinto a verbal altercation.

you forgot to mention the best line in the song " you wouldnt know what crazy was if charles manson was eating fruit loops on your front porch."

this record was good, and every record following this had a few good songs.
