AkimboNavigating the Bronze (2007)Alternative Tentacles Records Reviewer Rating: User Rating: Contributed by: Jesse (others by this writer | submit your own) Published on August 21st 2007
I was wrong. I said things I shouldn’t have. I was presumptuous; I was hasty. I retract previous comments. None before and none after can be this good. Akimbo has consistently slain one album per year since 2002. But never before has it been as explosive as Navigating the Bronze. Never before has it been this huge. Each previous album has been a step in the right direction, but there’s something about Aaron, the way his guitar fits with Nat’s drums and Jon’s bass and screaming. Previous guitar players couldn’t keep pace or were too based in punk to bring the fucking rock. Akimbo is operating as a well-oiled machine, and all the pistons are firing at the same speed.

And obviously, not one from Punknews posted any comments. Regime? Perhaps. Why the fuck was my comment stripped from the message board? Oh, was it because I thought this was the worst Akimbo record? I think so. I love Akimbo but this record gets 2.5 stars at best. Shame on the person who removed my post, do you work for Fox? Really a fantastic release. I have to say that as I wander farther from my home in rock and take up residence in rap and electronic, Akimbo will always bring me back. News of a new release always makes me giddy. I have followed this band since Elephantine grabbed me by my nutsack and every album since then has improved on the formula, offered something new, and never strayed too far from completely rocking that shit. Akimbo may be my favorite "heavy" rock band going today. Doesn't sound as good production wise as when they recorded analog. LOL "Are we at the point where we can disregard any review Jesse does of an Akimbo release? I don't care how much of a blinder-wearing fanboy you are, the idea that this band has released three perfect albums, and two near-perfect albums is absurd." good for them!!! this is a really unique, unknown, hardworking band. I really hope they get solid recognition for this album that cover art is fuckin sweet Are we at the point where we can disregard any review Jesse does of an Akimbo release? I don't care how much of a blinder-wearing fanboy you are, the idea that this band has released three perfect albums, and two near-perfect albums is absurd. im not too familiar with this band but the handful of songs i have heard I have liked, so I may check this out. Aww, pitifully biased fanboy or not, the dude can write, cut some slack. Good: Lengthy and descriptive review with a song-by-song breakdown. this record deserves the 5 stars. its so fucking good. i'm so stoked on seeing this band's progression from when i first heard 'harshing your mellow'. can't wait for 'Jersey Shores'. i need more! This album rules, this band rules...who gives a fuck if the reviewer loves them or not! Agree with the dude below. When I saw a link for this review, my guess was jesse because he's the world's biggest Akimbo fanboy. Suddenly the rating system is no longer 0-5 stars but 4-5 stars. NEXT A FIVE-STAR AKIMBO REVIEW FROM JESSE!? HOLY SHIT NO. jesse's reviews are always convincing. i will buy this. | Features
