We haven’t even hit August yet and 2007 is already my favorite year of new punk rock in ages. I’ve been turned on to so many amazing bands in the past seven months and San Francisco’s La Plebe belongs at the top of that list. When I sat down to write a review for La Plebe’s breakthrough LP, ¡Hasta la Muerte!, my goal was to let you know that this is my favorite punk record put out so far this year, and if you’re thinking that maybe I haven’t heard this record or that record you’re probably wrong. La Plebe delivers a unique style of lightning-fast, super socially conscious bi-lingual punk rock. The band’s name translated into English is "The Common Person" and that’s exactly who they play for. The band’s Red Scare debut acts as a unifying voice for not only the common man in the U.S. and Mexico, but all over the world.

Recorded at Motor Studios with producer Bill Gould (founding member of Faith No More, Brujeria), ¡Hasta la Muerte! is 30 minutes of pure energy. The song "Pinches Fronteras" sings of America’s arrogance towards those trying to find a better life across the border; "Plebe Por Vida" serves as an anthem for the band shouting “We have each other, we’re stronger than those who control,” and "Cerdos Al Marchar" is a tale of a rally turned riot: “They’ve come prepared with rags to protect their faces, for justice they rose together as brothers.”

However, not every song deals with such serious topics. La Plebe covers R&B legend Louis Jordan’s 1947 classic “Run Joe,” a tale of brothers Moe and Joe being busted by the police. Moe is arrested and it’s up to Joe to get away from the cops and get his brother out of jail.

Being someone that doesn’t speak Spanish I have to thank the band for putting the translations in the insert with the lyrics. The message of this record is strong, and including the translations insures that that message is not lost by any of the audience. This record is out; go buy it, give it a couple of listens, and then tell your friends about how awesome it is. You’ll thank me, I promise.

Me han introducido a tantas bandas asombrosas en los siete meses pasados y la banda, La Plebe, de San Francisco está en primer lugar de mi lista. Cuando comencé a escribir mi reseña del primer álbum de La Plebe, ¡Hasta la Muerte! mi meta era informarles a ustedes que éste es mi récord favorito de este año hasta enotonces y si usted está pensando que, alomejor no he oído este récord o este otro record usted esta probablemente incorrecto. La Plebe entrega un estilo único de punk rock cuál es tan rapido como relampago, muy consciente del mundo social y bilingüe. El nombre de la banda traduce en inglés como, “The Common Person” y éso es exactamente la audiencia para quien tocan. ¡La banda’s Red Scare debut actua como una voz unificando la plebe, no solamente en los Estados Unidos y México, pero la plebe por todo el mundo!

Como quiera, no todas las canciones se tratan de asuntos ta serios; La Plebe tiene una versión de la canción de 1947, "Run Joe," por Louis Jordan. La canción es un cuento de hermanos, Moe y Joe, que los cogen la policía. Arrestas a Moe enotonces él debe de confiar en Joe para que se escape de la policía y enotonces rescatarlo de la cárcel.

Siendo una persona que no habla español, debo agradecerle a la banda por traducir las líricas incluidas dentro de su álbum. El mensaje de este récord es fuerte, y porque han incluido las traducciones, La Plebe asegura que el mensaje no es perdido por sus audiencias. Este récord está disponible, comprenlo, escuchenlo varias veces, y entonces diganles a sus amigos que tan impresionante es. Ustedes me lo agradecerán, se los prometo.
