One of the worst things about 90% of the music today is that it takes very little creativity to make it. There are a good amount of bands thinking up new ideas and pursuing creative urges, but there are about 100 times more that are content to re-hash chords, lyrics and ideas from their peers and influences. That being said, Maylene and the Sons of Disaster deserve at the very least a small bit of credit for an attempt at creativity. All bets aside, they are probably the only band to ever write an album about Ma Barker, a figure of organized crime in the south in the 1900s, and her sons. That being said, Maylene and the Sons of Disaster are signed to Ferret (responsible for "music" by Boys Night Out, Lovehatehero and the sort) and they have a former member of Underoath. There's two strikes right there -- I was about ready to write them off altogether. But then there's the music.

the guitars in this band are fuckin bruuutal There's something about mayelene different from all the other hardcore bands today. Not only can they play their intruments very loudly and scream like there's no tommor but they can do it well. I admire that... Damn, if BNO is better than this then I'm not even going to give it a try. Score is for Boys Night Out! YES! "and they have a former member of Underoath. There's two strikes right there -- I was about ready to write them off altogether." Its true that ferret has made some great recent releases but they also have put some real shit out in the past. Therefore I am immediately skeptical. Whereas, with a label like Fat Wreck, Nitro or even Equal Vision that put out very little crap, I'm less skeptical. a strike for being on ferret? new boys night out, every time i die, and poison the well albums were great. what label are you on? i really didn't think there was too much filler on this album. it does blow their first album out of the water and i think might even blow the last he is legend album out as well Agreed with elephantdwarf. For now, with II, they have placed themselves on top of this little subgenre boys night out is better than this. Old Underoath>Maylene and the Sons of Disaster>New Underoath..That being said this is a fun listen and good cd overall... |
