I first heard Diesel Boy off of the Fat comp, “Survival of the Fattest”, probably like a lot of other people. The song was “Titty Twister” and it is a pretty good punk song. I later heard this album playing in my friend’s car and really enjoyed the sound, so I went out and bought it. After about a week of the album, I was a Diesel Boy fan. I like this band. I have fun listening to their music. In a genre of music that is over saturated with joke bands, Diesel Boy stands above the pact. This album, “Cock Rock” is a very good example of this. While the album’s title might immediately convey a notion that this album is completely joke filled, that wouldn’t be fare to say. Don’t get me wrong, it has plenty of jokes but they are more subtle than most bands. Some bands make entire songs about jokes or funny situations, Diesel Boy is a band that cleverly inserts them into their songs and before you can get a chance to laugh, they’re back on track with their music. The only exception on the album is the song “True Drew”, where Diesel Dave sings a personal love song to Drew Barrymore. According to www.cdnow.com, this is their first full length and it was released on Honest Don’s back in 1996, but I probably got my hands on it around 1998. The album starts off with the song “Saving the World”, which is a good love song. Has a real weird, silly beginning and then suddenly it goes straight into punk. Other highlights from this album are “Lime Green”, “Damaged”, and “Punk Rock 101”, which is a personal favorite of mine. While I did enjoy all of Diesel Boy’s later albums, I find myself listening to this one more than the others. It has some strong songs and some very fun lyrics. Notice I didn’t say “great” or “deep” lyrics, just fun ones. “Andy Stern” comes to mind. Diesel Boy is, in my opinion, what I like to a “below the radar” type of band, like many of the bands on the Honest Don roster. Note, this is not a bad thing. Personally, I like it. It’s like finding a hardly seen movie at a video store that has been sitting on the racks for ages, that when you get home you come to enjoy it for a number of reasons, but mostly because it’s a little gem that you can cherish to yourself. Now some bands want to get a big as they can audience wise, and see this type of fan appeal as bad, but Diesel Boy seems to hold a certain integrity that displays that they are happy being on a medium size label such as Honest Dons. Maybe it is really lonely being on top, but being in the middle is conzy enough to keep your feet flat but your head close to the sky. To sum it up, Diesel Boy is a good, fun punk rock band and this album is a good pick for you. Go to Honest Don’s website and order the CD, at $10 bucks, it is worth it! What the fuck is everyone's problem. Diesl Boy is not that bad and this album is very entertaining and funny. It is a great cd to play at parties and shit. There a fun band and I really like this album. There other albums are different but this one has some really good songs on it. I would say buy it or at least burn it, its really an enjoying cd. I still jam to it now even though this album came out so long ago. give it a chance people, take it for what it is. This is their best album by far. There other albums are average at best. Damn dude, bashing the fuck outta these guys damn... I did my own review on Diesel Boy's new album like 3 months ago on this site, check it out... well maybe you should't SOME of you guys don't know what good music is. Dude what the fuck is your prob? I was browsing through the used LP's at a record store and I noticed this album. I had to laugh, for the previous owner had written quotes about the album directly on the cover. They went something like: "Pure Shit," and "I once got my dick stuck in a cheese grader, and i would gladly do it again before listening to these goat-fuckers." rory = dumbass. What the hell.... Fuck you fathead!!!! you shouldn't bash on bands just because they want to change their sound!!! so what if they're techno!!! if everyone played punk you would just start bitching about that!!! open your mind a little bit before you trash on dieselboy for trying something new!!! wrong DieselBoy dude. i haven't heard the DJ, only the punk band. I like electronic music also, but save your techno reviews for technonews.org. ok there rory?- fathead System_Upgrade, the sixth release from Dieselboy, is coursing through my headphones. The clickity-clack, dhwump-dhwump of drum 'n' bass hits just right, like the soundtrack to a really good anime flick. A concept album of sorts, System_Upgrade is an aural walk through a cyberenvironment. Take '80s eye-candy film Tron, mix in the early Manga anime of Akira, wrap it with the power of Rage Against the Machine and the depth of DJ Krush's Ki-Oku, and you've got a good starting spot for understanding Dieselboy's latest offering. Woops left out a key word. Jeez, people... They're terrible or anything. generic pop punk... boring yet another band i just cant understand all the Hipe behind! Strife are a hell of a lot better than Diesel Boy This cd blows horse nuts I bought and it simplicity and repetetiveness made me sick. diesel boy are boring... If you like Strife, buy this. Diesel Boy? They're still going? i must disagree, Diesel Boy has some good songs, like the one about dirty anne. - fathead This band has 2 good songs: Titty Twister and Punk Rock 101. Because of those, I picked up this album when it came out. I promptly sold it back the very next day. I was too old for this stuff even at age 14. Avoid at all costs. |
