| Dillinger Four / The Brokedownslive In Chicago2007 live show Review by: JerryCola See others by this writer Dillinger Four (link) Only registered users can post comments Published on September 25th 2007
Before I start the review of the show at The Note I should probably mention the Dillinger Four in-store performance at Reckless Records. Since the show at The Note was 21 and over, Dillinger Four decided to throw a bone to their younger fans in Chicago by playing a free all-ages in-store show at Reckless Records a few hours before their show at The Note across the street. I’ve never seen any bands actually play inside Reckless before since the Queers in-store fell through and talks of a Teenage Bottlerocket in-store never actually came to fruition, so I figured this would be a pretty interesting experience.

One of the editors should fix my review; get rid of my sentence mentioning a new song and say that they played An American Banned. Plus the set-list should get fixed. Woah, Dillinger Four played a new song?? Does anyone know the title of it??? I felt stupid posting that the song wasn't new because someone else already did before me, but all these morons make me feel better THERE'S NO NEW SONG. Jesus. Too band this new song will never come out on a record... ever. Did an interview with The Brokedowns at : thats actually a pretty varied setlist from them. thomas paine usually isnt the opener, they havent really played bambi too much in the past 5 years or so, and floater and dick butkus are rarely if ever played. i would be psyched to see that set i went and saw Westbound Train and MU330 on this night instead of D4. not on purpose, but i forgot all about this show until the night before. i was going to go to both, but like a dumbfuck, i left my ID at home. im pretty sure the new song was called american band. im pretty sure the new song was called american band. Wehavecomeforyourchildren states; Once again, sorry I didn't know that it was an old song, that's what I get for not downloading music as much music as I should, stupid out of print releases. i'm not even sure i'd place "Noble Stabbings" in their top 3 on that album. "Fired-Side Chat" and "File Under Adult Urban Contemporary" are both songs that I would place as better than it, then it still has 3 or 4 really really good songs to duke it out with for #3. "Larry, have you ever heard of Vietnam?" BY. Shit, it'd be awesome if you could edit your comments. the "new song " is an american banned, and it's on the Mutant Pop 7" that came out like 7 or 8 years ago...something like that D4 is 5 stars my default. Um, "Noble Stabbings" is easily one of their top 3 songs. It's definitely better than all the ones you named. Shit, I didn't know that was actually an old song they played, sorry about that. by the way, each of those songs i listed is undeniably better than Noble Stabbings, Folk Song, A Floater Left with Pleasure in the Executive Washroom, Maximum Piss and Vinegar, #51 Dick Butkus, and D4 = Putting the "F" Back in "Art" actually, that's bullshit. most of their great songs aren't even ever in their set list. the reason they always play the same ones, according to billy morisette anyway, is because that between writing the new record and the fact that they can rarely get together, they haven't played most of the songs in years and would need to practice most of them first if they wanted to pull them off live. paddy especially doesn't remember lots of them and since he's away the most (arrivals, sean na na, fuck yeahs, bloodbath, other bands, and whatever else he's bumming around doing) there's not really any chance to relearn them. although, before they go out on tour for the new record (if that ever happens) they are gonna get a few more down. I saw them the night before in Minneapolis, "An American Banned" isn't a new song, it's very very old and from some split or something It seems like everyone's seeing D4 except for me. They actually didn't play a new song...the song the reviewer was referring to was An American Banned from the More Songs About Girlfriends and Bubblegum 7". Other comment from the show - Paddy was WRONG WRONG WRONG on one of his football notes...he said Favre first started because Jim McMahon got hurt...McMahon wasn't a Packer until '95 - Favre became a starter in '92. "D4's sets are so self-similar. They've got a pool of like 50 songs to choose from, why do they keep picking from the same 15?" Do they ever play: "sellthehousesellthecarssellthekidsfindsomeoneelseforgetiti'mnev ercomingbackforgetit"? new song?!?!?!?!? i wish i could fucking hear this D4's sets are so self-similar. They've got a pool of like 50 songs to choose from, why do they keep picking from the same 15? they really need to do a new album so they can do a full US tour or something. the brokedowns are the shit. Damn I want one of those shirts, ha. |
