I’m standing on the platform for the westbound train after work and it's one of those days where I feel like throwing myself in front of it. Soon however, I start to worry about the mental state of the driver that would hit me and then I start to worry what if I didn’t die and instead ended up just being in a lot of pain and then I start to wonder about who exactly would have the morose job of cleaning up my corpse? I start to look around at the other commuters because of the morbid thoughts I had just been indulging and become aware that I’m oozing with nervousness. Pretty grim stuff if you ask me, almost as grim as the fact the New Town Animals broke up after the release of just one album. Thankfully for you and the other wage slaves I travel with, ex-members of said band have teamed up with other Vancouverians to form Tranzmitors. They use nervous energy too on their debut LP but for something far more productive -- shaking ass and taking names.

I was totally meh on the Clorox Girls LP, I think this beats the pants off of it. I'm surprised you aren't feeling this adam. Sure I think the 7" stuff is a bit better overall and some songs are stronger than others but overall it is some really quality stuff I don't if it is New Town Animals good but really quality. I'm torn on this. I completely respect what the band's doing, and I'm a fan of both Jeffie's solo material and the New Town Animals, but there's something lacking here that I can't put my finger on. It's almost like the songwriting here requires a bit of frenetic energy to really click and the band just isn't performing with that much power. I'd love to play with a vinyl copy of this and see how it would sound if the speed was tweaked just a bit. I haven't heard this but the 7"s I've heard have been good. "Dancin' in the Front Row" is insanely catchy. can't believe this actually got reviewed. not a huge fan of mod or pop, but this fucking record fucking destroys!!!! definetley one of the best for 07' I was absolutely blown away by how fucking great this record is. This is a good album, Jeffie Genetic makes good albums. Sort of repetitive at time, but good. This and The Clorox Girls album are the two powerpop albums of the year. |
