| Pennywise / Face To Face / No Use For A Namelive in San Diego2001 live show Review by: Sheena See others by this writer Epitaph.com (link) Only registered users can post comments Published on November 23rd 2001
Well I was late leaving home and I honestly don’t know what I was thinking, taking my sweet time. After waiting in line for ages I finally got in to continue off in the middle of San Jose’s No Use For a Name. (I missed The line and Guttermouth who I was originally there to see) The first full song that I saw was “Coming too Close”. They played a brand new song that I didn’t catch the name of, but it sounded strangely similar to new Bad Religion. I was surprised at the number of fans in the audience. Some people were going crazy for this band and I didn’t know that many people knew of them. Other songs played were Misfits cover “I Turned into a Martian”, “Justified Black Eye” and “On the Outside”. Please login or register to post comments. my score is for the line-up. thats fucking wicked christ, sheena your show reviews suck. it would help if you actually described the show instead of telling us simply who played. i would have killed to go to this show cuz i love (almost) all of those bands. man what a let down. so next time can you actually tell us about the performances? Any of you San Diegans like Spare Change? Graduation Day is one of the best songs I've ever heard in my life. If i had a nickel for everytime I had a nickel, I would have a LOT OF FUCKING NICKELS!! get some new reviews up, jeez. To they guy who said we (US) should be greatful for our tours? Most of em are US bands. A lot of European bands don't tour the US that often and we hardly bitch. Face To Face are the greatest fucking band ever, even without matt. Scott is just as good. Although i miss original drummer Rob Kurth. he kicked major ass. FACE TO FACE RULES . PERIOD What's the Ramones Sex Pistols argument? The Ramones came way before the Sex Pistols. If anyone argues that they are an idiot. I don't like this review at all. it has be argued about when someone states that matt riddle created NUFAN either way, this isn't exactly like the ramones/sex pistols argument.. its just a fact the Pennywise was called Pennywise before No Use For A Name was called No Use For A Name. its not anything to get pissed about... PW been around since '85? I don't know about that. I know jason and fletcher went through a handful of members at the very beginning, but I doubt that was as early as '85. As for who has been around longer... who cares? That isn't what decides who goes on first or last. Youth Brigade opens for NOFX, and worse yet, Bad religion opened for Blink 182. See a theme here? I agree. guttermouth suck shit Ok, let me get some shit straight. Pennywise wasn't recording music until 1988, but the band itself has been around since 1985, I know this because I have been told by people who know the band well and saw them play way back then. No Use For A Name started in 1987 and have been recording ever since. And Jason didn't shoot himself in the head. He accidently shot himself in the stomach while drunk, these are Jim lindbergs words and he knows what he is talking about. PW forever. What's with all the the idiots showing off their ignorance? Sheena didn't know NUFAN were that popular? Dude below thinks Matt started NUFAN, who were around for years before FtF even got together? What the hell? hahahah, matt created NUFAN???? What planet are you from? why the fuck are you all complaining??? I live in the uk and its very rare that we get an oportunity to see great bands like that play over here. you lot are very lucky to live where you live, you should be more appreciative. every pennywise show isn't the same, i've been around people who said that too. I've seen PW so many times it's not even funny, and everytime i go i still go fuckin insane. The songs they play at shows can be the same sometimes but i've seen them play "too much fun ahead of me" and "you'll never make it" which are songs they barely ever play and i;ve seen them play "perfect people" and "Fight Till You Die" which are songs they always play, you just gotta like the band that much. oh yeah and Face to Face was BEFORE NUFAN because afeter Matt was kicked out he started NUFAN. Guttermouth only played new shit really and that sucked shit and I never really liked F2F. PENNYWISE is the best and this was a great show down in SD, and the writer of this review is a complete clown idiot "Killing Time" is a great PW song, and "Fun and Games" is probably their best. I wanna see Guttermouth too. i just got NUFAN's live album and it's decent. Nobody was bitching about aubin or the site, just the reviews were backlogged, and nobody knew. Dont get angry at people bitching when the bitching is of your own invention. Not everything negative is a complaint. No use for a name came first..they were first concieved in late '85 PW came almost 2 years later although both bands didn't release material up until about the same time. God damn people. Fucking relax. Aubin, Scott, Shindo and the rest run this site as a HOBBIE. You aren't paying shit for this site, and there are no advertisements swarming you when you come here. So shut the fuck up unless you want to create a "better" site. Fat chance. just a few comments... first of all, pennywise doesn't have a song called "among us", which leads me to believe you're referring to "alien" (from 1999's 'straight ahead'). next, no use for a name hasn't been around longer than pennywise and whoever said that is mistaken. next, why would you review a concert and basically say absolutely nothing about it? you told us absolutely nothing. i haven't been to any punk concerts lately, but i saw tool a couple weeks ago. why can't people write actual reviews? The fact that the reviewer went to a show of this magnitude solely to see Guttermouth (the worst band in the world, hands down) invalidates anything she had to say. so then i looked at the clock and it turns out that ive been iching my ball for four hours! Wtf kind of review for a show is this? It sucks The reviews are backed up at the moment, there are about 39 tenative reviews (none of which have been deleted). Aubin's busy sorting out some server issues and will get to the reviews in due time. At the moment Scott and I are covering the news. Dont fret, you're review will show up soon... yeah, i wrote a review of the new bad religion that I guess they didnt want to post? I dont know, im not to thrilled the only reviews that have come up are rather tepid live reviews. I know san diego has better shows than this Guttermouth plays at least 20 times a year in southern california, there's plenty of chances to see them. PW played fun and games? wow All are great bands...If you ask me, NUFAN should have headlined being they have been around the longest. I bet that reunion was pretty cool too. That lineup, a f2f reunion, a proposal, and you give it 3.5 stars. What do you wanna see? |
