The new effort by Orebro, Swedish punk rockers Millencolin is a strong leap forward for a pop-punk band. The band's previously big leap forward occurred with 2000's Pennybridge Pioneers, which saw the band playing with more of a pop-rock base than melodic skatepunk. Nevertheless, the new record sings a change in the band's history: The music is still catchy, but the general feeling you have after listening is that it's a solid rock record. No punk or skate hardcore is present here.

I love their older stuff and I was kind of dissapointed in the popiness of Kingwood but i really like this album! I hate to say it but this album bores me. It's ok, something to throw on once in a while. But I have loved Millencolin for a long time now and this is definately a tie for worst (along w/ Home from Home). They took a step up w/ Kingwood and then took another step back. I like this better than Kingwood, but not nearly as much as Home From Home or Life on a Plate. To me, those two records are almost flawless. four songs in, and it was already the best thing they've released since Pennybridge. Machine 15 is a great album. Good review. The album before "Kingwood", I think it was called "Home from Home", really blew arse. I think Millencolin was going for a "rock" album, but it was really boring.... I dig this album, I wanna hear "done is done" live, there are a couple of filler tracks. Kingwood had some faster bad religion type punk songs, but I do like what they're goin' for here, especially "route one"(face to faceish?) The only album they have made so far that i like every single song on. Fuck off the all of you! They have changed no direction...it was exactly what I expected ...songs to sing to. And whoever says Pennybridge Pioneers suck.....go listen to G.B.H or Crass! Why would you listen to Millencolin if you dont like pop punk! Nothing can compare to Life on a plate. Score is for the review. Write more betters. Just listened to the myspace stream. I liked the opening track and "Brand New Game", but there's a whole lot of filler on this album. Also, some of these lyrics are pretty bad. no that's true. the lyrics are by no means terrible. It's the kind you'd find on a pop/rock album like this. They're predictable if anything. It's different, but i can dig it. hit their stride with "For Monkeys" but this is still a good, catchy pop-punk album. 100% disagree with Scruffy. 99% of the people on this site probably d as well. No, we're ripping on it because the lyrics are terrible, the production ruins it, there's nowhere near the inventiveness of Kingwood and, as was said before, its mind numbingly boring. I wouldn't trash it but I definitely wouldn't call it a classic either. While I couldn't personally get into it, It made for OK listening so I'm not complaining. No, we're ripping on it because it's boring. Disappointing effort. all you nay-sayers are fail. it's a real good record and ripping on it because it's not pennybridge is pretty unfair. "Kingwood, which I honestly found really boring" I must admit I was quite disappointed by this. There are some decent tracks but it certainly is'nt as good as their previous records. If that's an 8/10, Pennybridge is a 80/10. I like evey album they do less than the previous one since PP. This one is frankly boring. I tried to get into it cause Millencolin was playing in Milan last week (I think it the same for calrupanddie), but I really couldn't, it's boring. If this is better than Kingwood, I'll pick this up. Though I haven't really listened to them in a long time, Pennybridge and Home from Home are great records. An alright album, but nowhere near the millencolin form i would expect. I was bored out of my mind when I listened to this listening to the myspace stream right now and i agree with the score. only crappy song is Vicious Circle, but otherwise it's good. little slower, but not too slow. what's with the feedback tracks though...this isn't Paint it Black. and EIGHT? LOL Score is for "Broken World" I thought kingwood was rad. That was a rock record too, all things considered. The thing is for a band like this to put out a good record time after time i think is a pretty notable feat. Think Strung Out, face to face (ignorance is bliss isnt bad its just slow and different), gameface, samiam. Hell i lost where i was going with this, but I like this record. I forgot to score this bullshit. Since there's no zero I give it a 1 out of 10. Awful music! Millencolin fucking sucks now! They haven't released anything good since Life On A Plate. Boos and hisses all around! scores for "no cigar" and "bullion This is the first Millencollin record I've ever listened to and I though it was pretty okay. Kingwood was really good at times but overall the album was rather weak. I don't really mind where Millencolin has gone, I think they write pretty damn good rock/pop songs for what it is. Not diggin it. I totally disagree about Kingwood having so much fillers. Been a fan for a while so I listened to the stream and for the most part found it boring. From what I recall the first 3 or 4 songs were pretty solid then it went downhill from there. I knew this album would get a good score, and that the review would bash Kingwood. still sounds like pop-punk to me. ...oh yeh, for monkeys = underrated!!! first good thing ive heard about this cd. I like that song where he mentions all the older songs... its good for what it is. wears out towards the end. the limited edition has a bonus dvd with 6 live tracks on too |
