Bad Religion - New Maps of Hell (Deluxe)

The Get Up Kids. Either you love 'em or you hate 'em. I happen to really like them. It's not that they're the most talented band out there, but they do write catchy songs that I seem to be able to relate to.

Eudora is the latest release by the band. It's not their new album. In fact, it's all relatively old. The disc is a collection of covers, old 7" songs and a few unreleased bits, as well as different versions of some of their more memorable songs.

The disc starts out with "Up on the Roof", an unreleased song recorded during their 2000 Heroes and Villains tour. It's probably my favorite song on the disc. You can get it at Vagrant.net. The next song is a David Bowie cover, "Suffragette City". Although a lot of people dislike this track, i enjoy it quite a bit. Songs 3-8 are all good in their own right, most were released on 7"s or international versions of their two LP's. Song 9, Alec Eiffel, is from a Pixies tribute album. It's a bit different, but a damn good song nonetheless. On With the Show is from a metal comp. The last six songs on the album are all different versions of older TGUK songs.

Overall, it's a good album. If you like The Get Up Kids, you'll like this. My only real complaint is that six of the songs have been widely released before. The band has been around for quite awhile, they have to have more than enough other unreleased songs lying around. One thing I really like about the album is that fewer of the songs are about lost love than you find on most of the band's other albums. This in turn reveals the funner side of the band. If you like The Get Up Kids, you'll like this. It's a good edition to your collection. If you never really got into the band, chances are you won't get into this either.

What the hell is wrong w/ everyone? Music is about relaying emotions and having fun, not trying to start conflicts. I got this album just before Christmas and I was surprised at how poorly it was recieved. I'm not going to talk about the tracks I liked or the reasons why I think the Get Up Kids are great. We've all read that. I just wanted to speak my disgust about how people ridicule music to death, sucking all the life and energy out of it. I'm not just talking about tguk, but all music in general.(exempting boy bands, rappers, ect. talk all the shit u want to about that) Maybe I wouldn't talk this way if you weren't pissing on tguk but, Carle, what the hell were u thinking? I think the emo/punk world has hit an alltime low if all we can do is make fun of the way people look. What is happening?

Bra-fucking-vo. You sure showed that dude. He was all like...

"there's a reason why some versions of these songs didn't make it onto albums (i am thinking of 'shorty' in particular)."

And then you were all like...

"Shorty was released on an album douchebag.. It was on Four Minute Mile.. "

Except, you didn't take the time to read his message before you bitched about it, so you totally missed the word "Versions." Then you started with the shit talking. So, in your own words, all I really want to say is...

"If your gonna talk shit.. Know what the fuck your talking about.. "

    Douche bag.

Ok.. This album is pretty decent.. I own all the get up kids records before this one so this one wasn't any big deal.. Just an album to add to my collection cause I love the kids.. and I saw that one person wrote that no wonder "shorty" wasn't released.. Shorty was released on an album douchebag.. It was on Four Minute Mile.. If your gonna talk shit.. Know what the fuck your talking about..

All I said was I personally didn't like FMM, and people are telling me to go to hell? What's wrong with you people? That's just beyond closemindedness. That borders on fascism. Why are you kids allowed to socialize at all?

this album sucks. there's a reason why some versions of these songs didn't make it onto albums (i am thinking of 'shorty' in particular). it's funny when bands like the backstreet boys or kid rock release greatest hits albums right before christmas only to make some xmas bucks, but sad when punk bands do it.

Easily the best thing this band has ever done because it doesn't sound like SHUTDOWN for once. God damned horrible tough-guy hardcore. That's the funny thing about it. They think they're so tough, but the singer sounds like minnie mouse and the bassist looks like donald duck. This band is disney hardcore.

Awesome. Just bought it yesterday. I really dislike FMM, but I love STWHA so I bought this hoping it would live up to my expectations. I half-expected it to sound old and amateur like FMM, but I was pleasantly surprised, as all of these songs sound clean and fresh. It's an amazing CD overall. I was especially pleased to hear a high-quality version of my favorite GUK song, Up on the Roof. On With the Show is a really good song too. Definitely get this if you like GUK. And if you're expecting it to sound like FMM, you'll be very surprised.

yeah, those re-releases on Doghouse weren't endoresed by the band at all... Doghouse owns the rights to those albums i guess, so they can rerelease the records with new shitty artwork and call it "remastered" and make a few extra bucks...i'm sure now that the guks are all the rage, people at those albums up...

The re-release of the Four Minute Mile wasnt their idea. The label didnt ask them. They just did it, and they where pretty pissed of at the label for doing that. I think it was Doghouse Records. And people can say what they will but the guk drummer kicks ass. People usually dont notice it... but damn he is a really good drummer... I know I play drums. GUK kiss arse

It's a ten, but it's unfourtunately just a marketing ploy to get the new fans to spend money. Cause I have just about everything on this disc already. Except 4 songs. Marketing ploy. Just like the "re-releases" of "Four Minute Mile".

This release was a dissapointment... Although, their cover of New Order's "Regret" rocks...of course, that's probably because James sings it...which is probably why it sounds like a Reggie song and not a Get Up Kids song...

There are a few good ones on here...but not enough to warrent buying it...

    My Score:

"Up On The Roof" is from their split 7" with Rocket From The Crypt [which is still available]. It is *not* unreleased. It's also a pretty weak song, too. But this does have the original version of "I'm A Loner..." which kicks the ass of the new version. The CD is worth it just for that song [or just buy the Postmarked Stamps CD to get a whole bunch of good songs from a bunch of good bands].

i dont have this yet (Christmas), but I hope its good and worth the money, since a lot of the tracks ive heard before. the finding out their funny side comment makes me hesitant, but, while this CD wont be amazing, it will be good, so im jealous you have it and i dont.
