This is something new, and hopefully Aubin, Kip, and Shindo will all post their choices too. Let's get right down to it. 9. Thursday - Full Collapse 8. Tool - Lateralus 7. Soulcracker - At Last, For You 6. Diffuser - Injury Loves Melody 5. Cursive - Burst And Bloom 4. The Faint - Danse Macabre 3. Ted Leo/Pharmacists - The Tyranny Of Distance 2. The [International] Noise Conspiracy - A New Morning, Changing Weather 1. System Of A Down - Toxicity THE THREE BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENTS OF 2001: 1. Weezer - The Green Album 2. Jimmy Eat World - Bleed American 3. Alkaline Trio - From Here To Infirmary THE MOST ANTICIPATED ALBUM OF 2002: Well duh, like I wouldn't say the new Bad Religion album. I've already heard it, and let me tell you it is a shoe-in for my top ten of 2002 already [and I'm not even that big of a BR fan, although that seems to be changing]. If you really want to hear it, IM me and we'll see what we can do, mp3 wise. Runner ups to the "most anticipated" for me are Weezer [this is their last chance, in my book, but the demos sound bomb], Thrice [their debut promised so much], Get Up Kids [let's see if they can make a "comeback"], The Promise Ring [let's see if they can make a comeback!], Thursday, and a slew more. Okay, so those were my choices, hastily decided to appease the masses. Tell me how much I or the bands I like suck below. Please login or register to post comments. What are the benefits of having a Punknews.org account?
Its great to see this in the top ten! can't you just remove it from the list? i bet you could! There's nothing I can do if people keep reloading it. Trust me, I wish it *wasn't* in the top 10, I don't even agree with most of what I said here. These lists should not be eligible for the top ten. what is going on now this has gone to number one, maybe this fun everyone having will put an end to those fucking annoying first posts or the fucking loser saying the aka's are everywhere decent list. i think a lot of "punk rockers" don't give system of a down a fair shot because they're mainstream. it's a shame.what this list is missing: The Dismemberment Plan - Change my # 1 of 2001 with out doubt , propagandhi's todays empires tomorrows ashes Heh, System of a Down as #1? You really have some searching to do, buddy. Haha... yeah all these new whiny ass fucking shitty wannabe emo crap bands can "Eat a bowl of fuck." Fuck new music. It's all shit. Quincy Punx should reform. Here are my bests from 2001. Blah... i know it's 3/4 through 2002, but I am bored so here are my two favorite albums from 2001: MAFIA'S PIX this guy's review of the top 10 is blowing. in a very bad way. and to the guy who said hangnail is good... you dont know what you're talking about ok, i realize we´re half-way through the year... oh well, im bored, fuck you. heres mine even though u could care less My top ten is um, an is a good band. fuck all his epi/fat shit. go listen to some real music. fuck the strokes. white stripes, and any of that other shit! fuck punk rock, fuck the mall, uck the scene, fuck the cow and the fucking horse! ^_^;; ok first of all, i hate tool. they suck. and system of a down. but everyone has a right to their own opinion. and i hate how everyone is starting to listen to bands like dashboard confessional and saves the day. there's all these little preps who are in love with the music that is in their cd player right beside their britney spears cds. it's so stupid. anyway, here's some of my favorites. I don't mind the opinion of the reviewer until he named Bleed American as one of the most disappointing albums of the year. I just can't understand that. Sorry. How come no one put Rocket From the Crypt's Group Sounds album on their list.It came out in 2001, and if it didn't it would still wipe the floor with this year's top picks. The albums I am looking forward to already came out. The new Bad Religion and Face to Face albums have breathed new life into a punk scene that has become stagnant and overloaded with emo and pop-punk bands. Also check out the new Hot Snakes album later this summer. here is my top 10 even though Im not really sure when alot of thers albums came out. Im so punk rock its scary. I have some really hardcore punk rock bands on here. (Im kidding for the sarcastic-challenged) 1.- Thursday- Full Collapse well my 10 is this mock all you want For a second I thought I was on metalnews.com. This is a terrible Top ten. How could you even mention System of a Down and Tool. GO Fuck Yourself! I dont think he put system of a down as a punk band. these are albums of the year, sheen. It would have been a good top ten if it included the HIVES. This guy sucks as a reviewer for albums. Putting System of a down as a punk band? Fuck him. BEFORE I LIST MY TOP TEN OF 2001 I'D LIKE TO SAY THAT THESE ARE MY PERSONAL SELECTIONS AND THAT I DON'T FEEL LIKE EVERYBODY ELSE'S LISTS ARE WRONG,EVERY ONE IS ENTITLED TO THERE PICKS AND I RESPECT EVERYONES PICKS. SO HERE WE GO: i wanna make a top 10! im cool! For the fucktard below me that says "emo sucks", you need to know ONE thing. Fat records sucks. you suck for liking it. you eat ass. Jeremy A. knows what is up motha fucka Well...I looked at a lot of people's thoughts, and I noticed at lot of EMO. Whining crying emo. BLAH...emo sucks. I also noticed that I saw about two halfway decent lists and none that were good. However, I did find the Sum 41 Hardcore comment quite funny. Here's my Top 10 Umm.. to the anonymous idiot below, why the hell would you put a label sampler on your top 10 list. And why is it only a top 6 list. Finally, did you know that there are bands that aren't on epitpah? No, really... there are. Since This site is called punk news let me help you at by letting you know what the best punk albums of 2001 were. Hey City Kid, most of this isn't radio stuff man. Get a clue dude. OPPS I WROTE THURSDAYS INSTEAD OF THURSDAY AND IF YOU WANNA COMMENT ON MY THOUGHTS E-MAIL ME AT coreyfeldman8@hotmail.com im one for giving thursdays accalades for "full collapse", but does anyone remember thier release on eyeball records,"waiting." That record was extremely sub-par. Lyrically and musically. While the sound was taking the hardcore genre in a new direction, it did it very slowly. Noone was applauding "waiting" and some people dont even seem to know it exists. I've read counts of reviews all over the web and noone seems to bring up "waiting" at all. Not even to note how much thursday has matured over a years time. Some reviews have gone as far to say that "full collapse" is thier "debut" album. It seems a few more people should do thier homework. Since im self-absorbed i'll put in my own two cents on top 10 of the year. Oh my. Those are some of the worst albums I have ever seen. Please keep this radio shit out of here. Let's please keep this site at least a little bit punk. I wish there was a rule that you must be at least 11 to use this site. Here are some of the best albums of 2001: yo scotty, check out your fairlanes review. some cool guy showed you up on the comments. haha. i agree with him too, you suck. Albums Im Looking Forward To: Top 10 Albums Of 2001 Where the hell did any of your taste come from? Good Charlotte is a band for 12 year old teenyboppers. The whole band is a bunch of creeps- the twin with the mohawk tried to get into my pants at Warped this summer. Rufio is the most generic pop-punk band I have ever heard. Even my 14-year old cousin said- wow this sounds exactly like NFG/Blink. Get some originality. And the Weezer cd was definately overrated- it puts me to sleep now.Thursday too- I don't see what all the hype is about. Feel free to argue back at me. Oh and the Fenix CD definately came out in 2001 ,thanks dumbasses. I have it in my hand and am looking at the copyrite date. Steve/Poppunk again, Left out a few anticipations in no particular order. Hey this is Steve from Poppunk.Com, thought id add a wierd twist and say my top 5 picks so far of 2002 since we're fortunate enough to have advance press copies of stuff. -RUFiO...Perhaps i supose At Warped Tour LTJ said that their new CD is gonna be just like Losing Streak, so that, BR, and millencolin and gonna be bought by me the first day they are out. here are my top 10 which are in fact the 10 cd's i bought this year. My top ten live bands I've seen this year. what about the soothing sounds of lars frederikson and the bastards? i thought their st album was really something special. You guys don't know music, heres my top 10. Top 10? how bout top 7 hehe, most of the people that work for epitaph work for hellcat. It is pretty much a subsidiary of Epitaph. I think epitaph is a great label, it doesn't matter to me if it has a hand in hellcat's affairs, because they do. I have a stack of business cards here to prove it. i think one of the only albums of 2001 worth mentioning is fugazi's "the argument". i got the chance to see fugazi play live in pittsburgh in april of 2001 and it blew my mind. one of the most intense, driven live shows ever. top 10 cds '01 (in no particular order) Tool is not Metal sorry Bro. Tool is not cool. The most boring music today. Its all a matter of opinion but when I'm hangin out with my friends I like shit that is upbeat (Lagwagon, Good Riddance, Ataris, Bad Astronaut, and so on) not tool. Tool is not cool at all. Ohhhh I get tired talking about them. Oh, by the way, my name is City Kid. I did the post right below this one. Please feel free to comment if you agree with me. This site should be called emonews.org. Not that I have a problem with emo. Further Seems Forever is great. Tool though. Someone gave me a free ticket to there show. Garbage. Absolute shit. And the people at the show were shit too. Suburbanites are less intelligent than people from the urban centers. There have been many sociological studies to support this. Don't blame me. I just believe it is my intrinsic responsability to keep you all informed, and perhaps assist some of you suburbanites achieve self-awarness. WHY HAS NO ONE MENTIONED THE UPCOMING UNWRITTEN LAW ALBUM (ELVA)???? I HAVE HEARD THIS AND THE NEW BAD RELIGION AND LET ME SAY THAT THESE 2 WILL BE ON THE FAVORITE'S LIST FOR YEARS TO COME. Hey seek, Jurassic 5 isnt underground anything. They were when their first EP came out and even when their album Quality Control came out. As soon as I saw them #1 on that shitty rap show on MTV they were no longer underground. If you are looking for some good underground hip hop try anything from rawkus records... and thats ALL i will ever say about rap on here again unless someone else makes a stupid comment. Its nice to see that since his departure from baseball, Kirby has found time to review punk cds. I'm very surprised Pennywise's Land of the Free? was left off your top picks. Awesome album, easily the best one behind Full Circle. I just have to say that those who give love for the new DMX cd, and the new Tool album, you have some excellent taste in music. Lateralus, and Toxicity, are the best releases so far in my opinion. Anyway, I too have the new BR album, I'm listening to it right now, and yes, it is one of the best BR albums since Generator or Recipe for Hate. I am quite impressed with it, and I can't wait to see some reviews on it when it is officially released. The Defense and You Don't Belong are my personal favorites, so far. STRIKE ANYWHERE - ok album but the ep and the Inquisition lp are way better 1. MISFITS - 12 Hits from hell (i got it for free!!!) top 10 bands of this year, in no order Best albem : recover - rodeo and picasso in no special order There are a bunch of good underground hip hop groups like Jurassic 5 with meaningful lyrics© If you want to hear the best rap group or I should say hip hop try checking out "Jurassic 5." Their lyrics are more meaningful than a lot of shit put out today and that right there is the only thing close to rap I will listen too. -Rock How can TimBomb say that Dropkick Murphys and DMX released shitty albums? Dropkick Murphys was probably one of the ebst albums ive heard since the gangs all here. They have never released anything but great music and that didnt stop this year. Best back ever. DMX album was not the greatest thing ive ever heard but it is probably one of the most raw and hard rap albums of the year. I dispise rap in just about every shape and form but DMX is one I enjoy because he is a real bad ass guy plus he raps about things that mean something to him and not about money and "ho's". The rap world needs more people like DMX and TuPac and less people like Puff Daddy (oh i mean P Diddy) and Jay Z and shit like that. Fuck you all for the comments Im going to get on liking DMX. Burning Heart isn't bought out TimBomb, Epitaph only distributes a select number of their releases© Looking forward in 2002: Oh Scott, I picked up the free 5 song "Sunset EP" by Pete Yorn (which contains "For Nancy") earlier this year before the LP came out and it's nothing but good times. Good, good stuff. I am happy it at least made it to honorable mention in your picks... Anonymous poster who attacked my comments... Bloody bastards at this site. You talk about getting pissed off because something is not "punk". Yes, I know that this is punknews.org, and that you all have very different ideals on what "punk" is and means these days. And that's pretty rockin' if you ask me, to have all those different opinions. But for you fucks that are too concerned with "punk" that you don't listen to anything else - how in the world can you even THINK about criticizing someone who listens and likes something that is not "punk"? You "punker-than-thou" kids are doing exactly the same thing as the pop-Mtv crowd: you're putting kids down because they are different. It's stupid and pointless and just makes you look like an immature wanker that doesn't even have a strong nor pure enough passion for music to respect other people's choice, or to like DIFFERENT things. Hell, I LOVE Frank Sinatra. I LOVE Ryan Adams. Yet, at the same time, I LOVE The Dead Kennedys. Get a fuckin life. the nerve agents are actually on hellcat (which is a sub-label of Epitaph.) as for the (i)nc they've released two albums for epitaph(which distributes for burning heart here in the states). regardless, they are technically working for epitaph. in other words the bottom line is that epitaph makes money off of their releases...believe what you want but they both "work" for epitaph.... I know the International Noise Conspiracy is on Burning Heart, and I think Nerve Agents are also... so, they're not on Epitaph. Epitaph is just the U.S. distrubuter. They didn't sign or work with those bands. To the guy below me reading Scott's review might help you answer that question. Scott-Speak yourself when you say that Alk3's new album was a let down. A great majority of people including myself thought it rocked and was there best work yet. I don't know how you classify what a let down is I wish you would explain that to me. Thanks man. "you know damn well that if asian man records or some other "independent" label..." in addition to my post below. you know damn well that if asian man records or some other "independent" label but that new Alkaline Trio record out you would be praising the shit out of it....just because it is on vagrant means that you should dislike it because vagrant isn't a "punk" enough label...i thought punk rock wasn't about labels or being labeled? TimBomb, funny that you say that Eptiaph/Vagrant/Fat are incapable of putting out good records then turnaround and say that the Nerve Agents and (I)NC were two of your faves. if you're checking at home both were released by Epitaph. the fucking elitist attitudes of people in the punk community is what is killing the scene. my advice to everyone is listen to what you want to and don't take shit from anyone because you like certain bands or whatever.... Thank you for the System of a Down comment, what a fucking awesome band. eml182@psu.edu its pretty lame of people to bitch about top 10 lists that have bands in it that arent "punk." if you only have punk bands in your top 10, then you really need to broaden your horizons...anyway, here are some great albums from 2k1 (no order): I forgot Millencolin: Home to Home I'm just listing what I got this past year, and I'm not saying it's all mind bending original stuff, but some of it is rather good. To the guy who put a play on words on most of the albums I like, that was very humorus. i only saw one person who put Osker - Idle Will Kill on their list! I thought that this was by far the best album of 2001, if not of all time. Everyone should check it out, it really is pure genius. anticipated album of 2002: Best albums of 2001 (not in order) timbomb, you had me going till you mentioned dmx. Here's my 10 cents about music this year. Two post down from me: Alkaline Trio was never on MTV you moron. You have some bad taste Mr Anonymous Top Ten 2001, in no special order To the guy that was talking about "Saves The Day," and "Thursday" being crap about 7 post down from here. I know its all opinion but the lyrics of "Stay What You Are" are some of the most amazing lyrics ever written. And then "Thursday." Out of all the bands you could have put at the top of your "Biggest Dissapointments" you put Thursday. I really think you need to listen more to them because it actually took me about 3 listens to really enjoy "Thursday." They have some very strong lyrics. -Rock I gotta agree with the guy that posted the rant about Fat Wreck/Vagrant... although he could've been a little nicer about it. It is kind of funny to look at everyone's list and see the same bands over and over, and they're all from the "major independent" labels like Fat Wreck, epitaph, vagrant, etc... I like a lot of the stuff those labels put out too, but I also like to explore more labels and more bands... to the guy 5 posts down: 1) Strike Anywhere-Change is a sound |
