The SwordThe Sword: Gods of the EarthGods of the Earth (2008)Kemado Records Reviewer Rating: 4.5 User Rating: Contributed by: JesseJesse (others by this writer | submit your own) In the Great Backlash Against Throwback Metal Bands of 2006, The Sword seemed to have taken the full brunt of it all. The reason why the guy below this comment is wrong is because The Sword isn't a stoner metal band. This band is hype city. Also, calling this "honest to god heavy metal"or whatever retarded cliche this reviewer used for this press release disguised as a review is pretty insulting. This band is hyped beyond belief by a larger than life PR company, their label is owned by Hollywood records/Disney...there is nothing "authentic" or "genuine" about this hipster poserfest. This band is full of dudes who look like they work at an Urban Outfitters, cannibalize riffs from the greats, and write downright corny lyrics about Ice Demons, wizards, and other patronizing metal cliches. Even if this band didn't suck as much as they do, High On Fire released an album a couple months before this record that pretty much renders it the tacky hipster crap it is! This band kind of reminds me of Trouble. If you like this, Psalm 9 is worth checking out. I didn't like this as much as Age of Winters. Every song on Age had some seriously well crafted asskicking riffs, and a lot of these are just thrashy with a good riff every other song. You know what? Doing songs about George R.R. Martin books is pretty sweet (To Take The Black) Also, calling this "honest to god heavy metal"or whatever retarded cliche this reviewer used for this press release disguised as a review is pretty insulting. God this band sucks! Total poser metal for fans of Saviours...lame! Go Listen to Awaken the Guardian... i just bought age of winters a month or two ago; so amazing. i don't give a flying shit about D&D either. man, these guys bring it. Posted by miniblindbandit on 2008-08-01 08:18:04 This isn't a review, it's a review of two reviews. By the way, when I listen to The Sword I don't think about all that D&D imagery bullshit. I think Sabbath and Iron Butterfly. Great record. D&D metal rules. God Heavy Metal! The Luna Bros. are pretty rad. This album fucking owns and is killer to drunk drive too. |
