For most of you Lightyear conjures up a picture of a toy flying round a kid’s bedroom called Buzz, but the lads from Derby in England are anything but a toy called Buzz. Their debut album “Call of the Weasel Clan” is Lightyear’s attempt of merging Punk, Ska, Hardcore and Pop. The Result is an energetic album, which is full of energy from start to end. The Highlights of the album are “24 04”, “Blindside”, “Bomb Ibiza” and “Pack of Dogs”.

The 7 piece is made up of the following: Chas – vocals, Nelb – guitar, Neil - trumpet & vocals, Barrs – bass, Jim – drums, Ben – saxophone, Mark - trumpet

Unfortunately the album is unable to express how amazing this band is live. I had the pleasure of seeing them live and their antics on stage are entertainment enough without the music even being taken into account. It’s because of Lightyear’s endless touring in the UK, that they have gained a big underground following. They have also had the pleasure of touring with Goldfinger, Capdown, Save Ferris, Less Than Jake, Nerf Herder, The Peacocks and Link 80. With this taken to account “Call of the Weasel Clan” still emerges as a great album.

I recommend this album and if you are ever in the UK you should go and experience them live.

For fucks sake, Lightyear are one of the best ska-core bands around right now and their album rocks!Every single song is amazing and anyone genuinley into the UK scene should own this!
And whats with "Lubby Nugegt are awful" comment? Have you actually heard their album? Subtle Crucial is excactley the kind of stuff moon should be putting out now, QUALITY SKA MUSIC!!!!

where the fuck did moon ska pop up from? they're on household name and the majority of bands on moon ska suck shit. lightyear ARE an absolutely ace band. this review is pretty pointless though.

This is a horrible band i agree, but King Prawn have some rereleases on moon ska and they are great.

i dont like this band at all. IN fact i can't think of a single band on Moon Ska Europe that I actually like at all. It all sounds the same. Lightyear are are worse version of Lubby Nugget, who are completely awful in themselves, and all this Zen Baseballbat and Buck O'Nine is doin my head in. And the worse thing is is that i love ska!

I saw them live last year, supporting Save Ferris. They are literally the worst band I have ever seen in my life. It's hard to find words to explain just how bad they are.

Poor generic horn section is totally out of time with an absolutly awful vocalist. There is no punk or ska in this, just a bunch of morons playing horns badly. The songs are poorly written, the lyrics somehow managing to be even worse than the music.

They honestly sound like they've only been playing together for a month. If they were a parody of ska-punk, they'd be hilarious. As it is, it's just offensive.

i couldnt agree more mr wessel. lightyear are ace. download an mp3. they're the hardest working band in england, seriously and they deserve everything theyre getting. when can i get a copy of the asw cd dude?

Lightyear are fantastic... best live band in the UK. As for that Snuff comment someone made... ur way off track dude. It's hard to find similar bands to compare them to cos they've got their own brand of stuff goin on... perhaps Catch 22 are vaguely similar but Lightyear are funnier and...well... just plain awesome.

They sound far too much like Snuff for my liking. Take away the little bit of ska and they are Snuff minus the singing drummer plus traditional English Morris dancing. Album nothing interesting, live show good.

ok so they merged punk, ska, hardcore, and pop to create an energetic album. well that sounds like a fantastic album. great explanation of the songs, and why you think the album is so good. You gotta include those things when you review an album.
