Regardless of what Selective Wreckage's promotional materials / the band themselves will tell you, it is at its heart a B-sides and rarities compilation. While it is described as more than that in most press regarding it, the 10 songs play like a gathering of songs that just weren't good enough for their other full-lengths.

Have never listened to this band. If inagreendase is right, i probably never will. Who gives a shit about victory, and who gives a shit about a band bitching about a shitty label that is probably the reason half their fans know who they are? (Total assumption on my part, this band coulda totally been on the Hills or something for all I know) And why am I on a message board bitching. Fuck. Everyone knows "Guestlist" was probably more a dig at Victory's over-the-top promo tactics, anyway. I fucking love this band (and Brand New, for the record). Is Dead is one of the best albums I've heard in the last five years. i understand why they made the comparison, my point was that it is highly ironic that a sticker namedropping a fairly large band should be put on the front of the record after the song "I'm on the guestlist motherfucker" which is an attack at labels which put stickers on the front of cds with large bands on it to entice people to buy it because they like the other bands. lets be honest here, comparing them to Brand New (especially "is dead" material) is not a stretch at all im tempted to go to Birmingham to see the easycore tour just for them but from brian's review from when it was stateside im really not sure Can't wait to get this, and to seeing these fuckers again. I just wish it wasn't with NFG. mine had a big black sticker on the front that says "for fans of Lifetime, Avail and Brand New" Love was mentioned in passing and somehow, as a song that fans of the Troubled Stateside have heard already, despite it not (to my knowledge) ever being released. Nothing wrong with ...Is Dead, it's an enjoyable record... But man The Troubled Stateside was so great, maybe the best melodic hardcore record ever written, so it's really a shame that they decided to abandon what was making them so special to become only a good alternative rock band that sounds like Brand New. This CD is sick however, reminds the good old days. it's definitely a bunch of songs they weren't gonna release, and they should have changed the tracklisting becase it doesn't flow well other than that there's some good songs and it's kind of cool to hear stuff they originally threw out How you can talk about this release and not mention the song Love is beyond me. What did your stickers say? The european stickers said "like REFUSED, HOT WATER MUSIC, FUGAZI and THE SMITHS". To agree with someone below me, I think "Is Dead" is also one of thee best records of this decade. Friggin' phenomenal. How you can talk about this release and not mention the song Love is beyond me. I can see how "Is Dead" would divide their previous fanbase but I think it ultimately gained them far more fans than they lost. A few of these songs are a little weird, so it makes sense that they wouldn't end up on a proper full-length. I like it well enough, though. I think this is a highly enjoyable and listenable release. i wonder if this, like is dead, will have a big black sticker on the front which says "For Fans of" To say Is Dead was well received by fans is a fallacy. It heavily divided their fan base. Ive been listening to the combo of "Takbir" and "The Bride" repeatedly since I got this, two great songs that fit perfectly together. Is Dead is one of the best records released this decade, in my opinion. I like these guys, I like them a lot. Could never get into Is Dead though.. oh wellz. |
