| Akimbo / Sweet Cobra / Medusalive in Indinapolis2008 live show Review by: Jesse See others by this writer Official Site (link) Only registered users can post comments Published on October 31st 2008
Sometimes you find yourself driving an hour and a half up a highway, cramming a burrito in your mouth as the sun sets and turns the horizon from dusk to pitch black, alternating chugging gulps of black coffee with keeping your hands on the wheel in order to keep the black compact sedan bullet you're speeding in from flying off the road. When you arrive at the destination, you know you're on the guest list but everything's happening in the basement of one half of a crappy duplex, so you pay the seven bucks anyway because you know at least two of the bands drove at least three hours to play this crappy show. In the living room, everyone's sitting around on couches watching "Tim and Eric Awesome Show Great Job!" with the subtitles on while the reverberating sound check from the bass is rattling the walls and floor. And every so often, a dog trots down the stairs, looks at everyone, drops its tail and heads back upstairs.

"SilentStorms obviously doesn't like Akimbo." Aiight, props to Will for the Born Against reference. But I said "before" because I wrote the Sweet Cobra album review before this live show review, they just got posted in reverse order. SilentStorms obviously doesn't like Akimbo. "I've said it before, but Sweet Cobra sounds like Born Against covering Black Sabbath's "Paranoid."" I have every single Akimbo album. Except this one. That's cuz I streamed it a couple of days ago and thought ... hmmmmm, quite frankly, this guy shouldn't be trying to sing. The instrumentals still appeal to me but I cannot stand that voice. Yikes. Opinions only here, but shit I only made it through 4 of the songs and I was cringing a lot of the time. And yes, I know, Jesse you suck these guys' cocks. All at once. That shirt must need some major scrubbing. Score is for the last 2 albums (as I think they were recorded during the same session, correct me if I'm wrong). Ska ha ha! This show was in my basement! I had no idea that anyone would review this. Akimbo is fuckin brutal. Killer dudes too. I'll have to visit this 'Indinapolis' you speak oh. Heh I'm a dick. I really should check these dudes out more since what I heard sounded like the Cougars without the horns and the Cougars seem to be winding down anyway. Sweet Cobra are fucking pummeling. Love that band. I'm so bummed that I wasn't able to see this show in Chicago on Wednesday. Fuck being poor. i think jersey shores is my album of the year. that thing is fuckin awesome. |
