Copeland’s sophomore full-length, 2005’s In Motion proved that sappy songwriting could still be absolutely gripping. It was dynamic and emotionally devastating, with the band sounding worlds more sincere than their piano-pop counterparts and more determined than its second and third-rate followers. 2006’s quick followup, Eat, Sleep, Repeat wasn’t quite as memorable, but the band seemed resolute to avoid pigeonholing, lettings hints of everything from atmospheric post-rock to mid-century jazz infect the songs to pleasing success.

In Motion was so rad. I'm kinda scared to hear this. everything except in motion is painfully bore-ing gayest album title ever Eh, I think it's a decent record, seems like a step up from the letdown that was Eat, Sleep, Repeat. Would be nice if they brought back some of the "rock" that was evident at times in "In Motion". Surprised you didn't mention the guest vocals on a couple songs by Rae Cassidy, they are a nice fit for this record, as she seems to be pretty close to a "female Aaron Marsh". Of course, one could argue Aaron Marsh himself is the "female Aaron Marsh". Dinosaurs? |
