Modern Rifles feature an ex-member of defunct Pittsburgh punk act Teddy Duchamp's Army (a predecessor to Voice in the Wire), but the better point of reference is their hometown, San Diego. Their style is purely SD-centric indie rock, occasionally calling to mind hints of predecessors like No Knife and Drive Like Jehu.

i heard the drummer doesnt use drum sticks, yet he pounds the rythms with his horse cock. Hey, this is pretty good. This band absolutely rocks. If you're not feeling the song titles you should just rename them. Problem solved. Holy shit, that was really good. AKA, really No Knife, buying this right now. It's like mathy No Knife emo guitars with a guy who's less monotone than No Knife, and can get more towards the yelling/screaming end of things. But, obviously I'm not comparing them to No Knife ... as they may be better. Score is for what I heard. Wheow, No Knife reference? I'm checking this out right now! Score is for No Knife. They should've named it 'You Were Young, It Was Dark'.... Seen 'em live a few times and they've put on a good show every time. Good energy. Great guitar riffs. At times they remind me of At The Drive-In, but not as intense. Also remind me of old San Diego band INCH a bit. I agree with the review - solid first effort, can't wait to see what they come up with next. could be ok... |
