Gaslight Anthem / Heartless Bastardslive in New York (2009)Side One Dummy Records Reviewer Rating: Contributed by: lostandclowned (others by this writer | submit your own) Published on March 31st 2009
The last time I saw the Gaslight Anthem headline a show was in August for The ‘59 Sound record release show at the Knitting Factory, a venue that holds about 300 people in its main room. Two months after that, I saw them play two nights with Rise Against at the Roseland Ballroom where only a few people were familiar with the band. Needless to say, they probably won over a fair amount of the people who saw them play one of those nights because they sold out Webster Hall. It’s been exciting watching their fanbase grow in the two years since Sink or Swim came out and the band seemed bewildered by the feat. It was the first night of the tour and Philadelphia’s Good Old War and Cincinnati, Ohio’s Heartless Bastards were brought along for the fun.

so did he fuckin smile or not? Score is for the show in Cleveland. Brian played "I'm On Fire" by himself for the first song of the encore. set list anyone? Dunno why this won't get posted on here, but here we go! I find setlists on reviews aesthetically displeasing, so here's for all you other jerks: i've noticed the same angry/happy brian fallon in the 3 times i've seen them. i guess its all part of his tortured soul thing he has going on, which i have no doubt is honest. the first time i saw them he was delirously happy about playing in england for the first time and the 2nd time he came out looking pissed off but really warmed up to the crowd by the end. the 3rd time was in a much bigger venue, and although they were still great it seemed like he found it really difficult to connect with the audience in a bigger venue. having seen these guys a few times there is definitely a huge variability in Fallon's attitude and I have to say I think that's really cool. It's honest music and he acts honestly. He changes, the set changes; its all good and it rewards repeated visits which, given how much this band tours, nearly everyone has the ability to do. In my bad opinion... it kinda bothers me to see punk bands smile during their entire sets... Sweetbabyjesus I can't wait to see these guys in Minneapolis on Saturday night. I've loved these guys since I first heard Sink Or Swim and I haven't been able to see them headlining yet. "I thought they played loose but well" I like Gaslight Anthem a lot, but I'm glad I'm not seeing them in Chicago this Friday... I don't feel like standing around with a bunch of crying men. i was up on the balcony for this show, i enjoyed it. I thought they played loose but well. Saw the Columbus show. Gaslight is HUGE now, they sold out a 1,650 person venue! I saw them in Sept. and there weren't more than 300 kids. ill be seeing them for the first time in jersey in may....cant fucking wait did they do the "What Becomes Of The Broken Hearted" bit during Angry Johnny? Meant it, like, he didn't smile the ENTIRE set, only sometimes. Before, he never stopped. I had fun. He didn't smile during the whole set but still smiled?? I find setlists on reviews aesthetically displeasing, so here's for all you other jerks: Score's for no not 21 show in Boston. I just saw this tour in Columbus, Ohio, last night. It's right on OSU campus and the show was full of bros and hipsters. The band put on a real good show, though. It just didn't have the energy of a punk show. What room was this in? I had a lot of fun. They sounded good. It would have been better in a smaller venue...and one that didn't charge 8-fucking-dollars for a Budweiser! Crowd at this was so annoying. Several dozen crowd surfing attempts with no barrier in place only being part of it. | Features
