Brokencyde is a poor man's I Set My Friends on Fire. You know, that band of skinny dudes who do nü-screamo vocals over crunk beats? Brokencyde is like that, but somehow worse.

I could probably end this review right here, but as this seems to be what the kids are listening to these days, here's what you need to know if you encounter a Brokencyde fan in your local Hot Topic:

There are four guys in the band (or, as they refer to themselves on MySpace, the "crew"), who share duties ranging from "vocals" to "gangsta raps" to "growls" to "hypeman." Over beats almost undoubtedly stolen from other crunk artists, these budding young musicians either alternately or simultaneously emulate every embarassing "extreme" vocal trend of the past five years. If you can get past the wall of abrasive noise, you'll appreciate such subtle and nuanced lyrics as this gem, from their song "Schitzo":

1, 2, we're coming for you
3, 4, lock your door
5, 6, suck on my dick"

The five tracks on their BC 13 EP offer little in terms of variety. They all feature repetitive, disjointed lyrics that aim for shock value with misogynistic and violent themes. There is no sense of buildup or tension, the music tries to be as heavy as it can at all times, and fails in almost every regard imaginable. While it may be useful to keep one Brokencye song on your playlist for the next time you hold a house party and need to clear the room of people who overstay their welcome, there are no other redeeming qualities to be found here. This is the epitome of flavor-of-the-week, disposable bullshit.

This shit's a poor mans I Set My Friend On Fire? Well, they are constantly called "a poor mans Genghis Tron"...

Stop with this fucking lumping in bullshit. Just because a band doesn't have a normal set-up it doesn't mean that they sound like other bands who don't. It's literally the exact thing as saying "This band has guitars, drums and bass so yeah, they sound like Slayer, Gym Class Heroes, Hot Water Music and Primus".

I heard so much negative shite about this band that I finally had to go and give it a listen. It kind of sounds like my stomach talking when I haven't eaten in a long time. WTF is that noise??? I had to run as fast as I could to listen to some new Propagandhi to get that shit out of my head. I hope I'm never hungry again!!

easily one of the worst bands ever, just so happened to be booked on one of their shows in Indiana while on tour, and it was horrible, but for some reason kids were soo stoked to see them. They took an extra 30-45 minutes to start because their lights werent working right! Fuck this band is a waste of space

honestly, i feel like s7even and mikl are stepping all over phat j (clearly the creative focal point of this album). I don't know if it has to do with the way the album was mixed or if they're going for a heavier/progressive sound, but i just feel the whole ep is muddled. I'm curious as to how this new dynamic will play out live, especially with antz's "lights/fog/dmx."

I've said it before and I'll say it again, these guys literally can not lose. I hate their music but they're the type of band that will thrive on negative press. Pan their album, kick them of Warped Tour, it just makes them "too real" and more likely to appeal to some chick who's looking for her first baby daddy.
They'll never be a legitimate band, but neither were Kottonmouth Kings.

I finally checked out their videos on youtube and holy hell that is some hilariously terrible crap.

The best part is the kids that get all pissed at the comments about how shitty they are. "If you don't like Brokencyde then just don't listen to them! Waaah!"
