Punknews Records alumnus Ryan’s Hope released this five-song EP in early 2008, and then re-released it later that year with two additional songs as a free download from their website. Any fan of their past records or melodic skatepunk in general would be well-advised to give this release a whirl, because since their last full-length, 2006's Apocalypse in Increments, the band has progressed both musically and in their ability to hit the listener with a blast of catchy breakdowns and sing-along choruses before the listener even knows what the fuck they just heard. While some might define the band’s sound as melodic hardcore, the riffs and bridges are too fast for the average hardcore band, and the genre could be more appropriately classified as tight, blistering speed-punk that ventures into hardcore territory with both the sneering vocals and the rocking guitar breakdowns.

This sounds cool in a weird way. Not really into this kind of thing normally but it seems like they got something goin on. @ those who take comments seriously. These faggots have been around for like 17 years and the only people that take notice the Punknews.org folks. Self-titled? Guess they got dropped from Punknews Records? Sweet Job dudes, you guys were really dragging that label down. Your 3 records sold were only a fifth of the gross product for that fucking rocket ship of a company. I almost feel bad for these guys, I wanna have a benefit show for them in my basement, but than I'd have to pay the neighbors off to make sure they don't spread the word that I listen to shitty music. This band has a couple of enjoyable tracks, otherwise pretty generic. The drop c shit is weak, you don't have to down tune to be heavy. These guys are awesome. apocalypse was great, but this ep has a lot of similar riffs, vocal melodies and song structures, so it's not exactly an improvement or a progression, but it's still good, just a bit of a dissapointment to me. Did I really type banned instead of band? this band is sick and probably the only banned that plays in drop C that I can stomach. Check out Apocalypse in Increments (2006) It was one of the best punk/metal infused albums to come out that year. I've been a huge fan every since. You won't be disappointed. The only flaw I see is the simplistic drumming. It could be stepped up a notch to match the fantastic guitar work. Personally I think this EP is incredible. Some absolutely jaw-dropping guitar work and ridiculous solos. And it is fast as hell. I'd never really listened to this band, but when I saw them open for someone else in May I was really impressed. They're SUPER tight. I'm going to make more of an effort to listen to them in the future. love the artwork. |
