Happy English Punk blended with Oi at it’s best. The Toy Dolls full-length debut is nothing short of a classic. Sadly the line-up (Olga, Flip & Happy Bob) did not last long enough for a second album.

The guitars are lightly distorted, the backup vocals are in the same style as the late 70’s oi bands, and the lyrics are almost childish and makes no sense at all. The vocals are happy and Olga (Michael Algar) sound like a chick. What else do you need?

The Toy Dolls formed in ’79 as a four piece, but in the first of many line-up changes Olga took over the role as the lead singer. The band has released 16 full-length albums over 15 years and they are still alive and kicking.

This is a nice record to have in your collection, but a hard one to find, so I suggest you go and buy one of the five collections out there, and make up your mind from there.

    My Score:

One of my ten favorite albums of all time, easily. Toy Dolls are the best band out there, to me at least. Olga's an incredible musician. "Glenda & the Test Tube Baby", though not the album's best know track, is one of the most difficult songs Olga has ever composed.
The album in itself is an absolutely brilliant collection of songs that can't be taken seriously but should be held in the highest regard.

yah seriously this review does no justice to all the hard work the assorted toy dolls put in over the years. everyone's rating and words for this band though is a great testiment to them

    My Score:

Yeah I love the Business, and yeah their choruses are huge, but in relation to the rest of any given song, I think Toy Dolls choruses are bigger. Does that make sense?

    My Score:

i agree with the score given by the reviewer, but what "the hugest singalong choruses in history" isn't true at all, they're not very big on that compared to other oi! bands such as The Buseniss. Nevertheless, as said in the review, it IS a nice record to have in your collection and it's about time someone did a review on one of their records.

I agree with the other poster. This review doesn't do the Toy Dolls any justice. They're way better than this joker lets on.

    My Score:

I would call the Toy Dolls the Sharon Louise, and Brahm of Oi! They have the hugest singalong choruses in history to songs for 5 year olds. Absolutely genius, and your review does no justice to them at all. No offense, I just think you could've gone into a little more detail.
