As the year winds down, so too does the Rentals’ Songs About Time multimedia project. While fans can still expect a few more Films About Weeks installments and plenty more Photographs About Days updates now through December, the music portion of the artistic endeavor concludes with this month’s release of The Future. Part three of a trio of EPs already filled with mellow songs, The Future might be the most subdued, understated Rentals release yet.

I would say this is the worst of the lot, but not any orse than the mediocre Last Little Life EP. Maybe the future is a veiled reference to getting rid of the female lead vocalist and going with a chorus of kids. "Rose" and "trace" both use this... Shitty Rentals disappoints me so much more than shitty Weezer. So much wasted potential. Uhm, ok, so it's bad? I didn't realize they were still a band. I'm such a loser... Bummed that they seem to have capped this project off with a weak batch of songs, but I'll still download em. Sucks they pushed back the box; I hope it ends up being worth your investment. For that much it should come with a pair of those sweet glasses he wore on the cover of Return. |
