Raw Nerve is the new successors to the Sex/Vid and Cult Ritual throne of ultra-hyped hardcore. Raw Nerve shares the “mysterious” aesthetic, the whole “immediate collector bait” shtick in regards to printing records and a general sound: noisy hardcore with huge Void and general Mark McCoy inflections.

“Stay Staid” (the lone holdover from their demo) and “You Live” make up the A-side. It’s 1:30 of chaotic hardcore where unless you’re giving the music your full attention, you won’t notice the different songs. The B-side’s title track is actually the strongest of the four tunes, what with having a couple different parts (slow intro, buried vocals, thrash part, slow part that’s not a breakdown per se, etc.) that don’t sound arbitrarily forced together. Though I’ve never enjoyed X-Ray Spex all that much themselves, the ending cover of “I’m a Cliché” is pretty goddamn fun, not a word you’d normally associate with this sort of thing.

Video Disease made up 300 copies of the record and all were sold over the course of one weekend in early October. Already these fuckers are fetching $40 on eBay, if you can believe that. Do some investigating in distros to pay the intended price or go blog searching. Despite the inane amount of hype given, Raw Nerve delivers musically. The upcoming LP on Youth Attack (naturally) should be a doozy.

inagreendase, they started out as a band where they didn't reveal any of the identities of the members of the band. at their first show, they wore all black and covered their faces. they also just stood around with their heads hung, not talking to anyone until they played. now they've revealed their identities, and what fun is that?

    My Score:

this band is horrible with horrible people in it. I live in chicago and i can honestly say that no one likes this band. I tried talking to the singer once and and he totally made some homophobic comment towards me that i found rude and offensive. The drummer sucks, i mean...this guy is horrible. Im not sure the names of these douche bags but i would love to find them and beat the fuck out of them and shove this over hyped piece of garbage down their throats. Fuck this band. Fuck hipster hardcore. these guys are total faggots, and I hate faggots. also they have mexicans in the band? white power mother fucker. FUCK RAW NERVE

I liked this band better when they took MLIW's "D.E.A.D.R.A.M.O.N.E.S" too seriously

    My Score:

this band is rips. Saw them in a basement in St. Louis with Guilty Faces and Bad Antics. They have an intense live set.

Yeah, its more that this style of hardcore is somewhat new to me, its a bit more meticulous then my normal b9 stuff. I wouldn't know what to say, however, I'll give it a shot.

Go for it. If you take out the feedback at the end and drum intros you're left with a 20 minute record to write about.

I was thinking of doing a review for the Cult Ritual LP but I don't even know where to start with that, it's so awesome. I know they're hyped to shit, but man they deserve it.

I have yet to check out Raw Nerve, I'll have to look for this.
