Chuck KlostermanEating the Dinosaur [book] (2009)Scribner Reviewer Rating: Contributed by: Jelone (others by this writer | submit your own) Published on November 6th 2009
With Eating the Dinosaur, author Chuck Klosterman has finally penned a true sequel to his knockout 2003 collection Sex, Drugs and Cocoa Puffs: A Low Culture Manifesto. They’re both collections of original essays examining the philosophical hidden meanings of popular culture. Where they differ, though, is in maturity. Cocoa Puffs took on The Real World, John Cusack, and Saved By the Bell. Dinosaur, meanwhile, attempts to explain the Waco massacre, the Unibomber and the mathematical theories of the film Primer. Obviously, this is headier, more mature stuff.

Just started reading this on Friday. Surprised to see it reviewed here. Looking forward to reading this...though Killing Yourself to Live is my favorite book by him. Fuck this buying books shit. I'm waiting until I can download the .pdf or audiobook on gimmefreeshit.net or whatever the kids do these days. I did a double take when I saw this up. I also liked that you referenced Joe Sacco. I love his books. This was a great review. My score is for it. I was well thought out and was actually critical. i've tried with three of his books to get all the way through, and never could. half the time its interesting, but the other half is self-deluded fluff from a guy who still listens to Poison. This was good...but not great. I feel like he is trying to hard to pull together the pop culture references sometimes. He is also hard to read when you have no idea what he is talking about. "[E]very Weezer release stirs up yet another conversation about how the band was better with Matt Sharp involved. And while I appreciate Klosterman’s unique approach to the topic, there’s still a part of me that resents people who argue that Weezer has released an album this decade on par with its ’90s material." never read anything by him, but IV by him is on my book list to check out some time... | Features
