Of all the recent talk of band reunions, one intrigued me more than the rest: Sunny Day Real Estate. A band that I’ll admit I was late to the party on, I didn't pick up Diary until 1999; however, I was quick to understand the praise the band had garnered throughout their (now that I’ve researched it a bit more) brief career. They're a band that continues to be a constant part of my rotation, but had never had the opportunity to witness live (beyond the CD of Live that I, on occasion, listen to while falling asleep or the VHS tape of Live that I dust off and play from time to time).

Sure it's not Diary or even How It Feels but it's still a great album. These songs sounded awesome on the reunion tour! No, I think you're right about "Spade and Parade" sounding similar to "Iscarabaid." I noticed the similarity in the very beginning of the song. The breakdown and end of "Spade and Parade" are great though. Diary = Greatness
I love this album. The drumming is amazing. Always been my least favorite SDRE album. It's all relative, though. I also think Pink is one of the best albums of the '90s. I loved Diary and have never liked this record. Just glad it doesn't live in my house anymore. brilliant. this is at the top of the 90s emo heap. I wanted to add this in the review but omitted it since it had nothing to do with the album itself: "Rodeo Jones" is my favorite Sunny Day Real Estate song, and (in my opinion) the best song they produced. Always great to hear that song in any fashion (whether on the live CD or on the album). I enjoyed Diary but I was never really into this record... but this review has made me want to give it another spin. A fine album originally although it should probably be called a "collection of songs" rather than an "album". Really keen to get these re-masters. Consistently brilliant band. | Features
