New York Hardcore outside of Long Island has gotten a bit stale in its evolution towards the "beatdown" variety over the course of the last 10 years or so. While Merauder certainly doesn't eschew any notion of this shift, they do mix in a variety of other genres to keep things interesting between the hammering double-bass breakdowns and deathcore growls of their fourth studio full-length, God Is I.

I got rid of 98% of the NYHC style shit I used to own...25 ta life, bulldoze, madball, etc. Merauder is one of the few bands who's stuff I held onto, along with early VOD, AF and All Out War. AOW is about the metal core shit I ever listen too these days. Merauder are pretty capable musicians as far as this style goes and one of the few bands I'm not embarrased that I listened too and still own. First, I'm AMAZED that a review of this on PN didn't rip it to shreds. Second, I'm amazed that Merauder is still making music. In terms of basketball-jersey beatdown hardcore, nothing - NOTHING - can beat "Master Killer" for its straight up ridiculousness. | Features
