Let's face facts, people: If you were a fan of third-wave ska at its peak (let's say from 1993-1998), chances are good that you're certifiably old by now. Y'know, you have a real job and a family to worry about, and skanking has simply lost its importance. Gone are your Hawaiian shirts and porkpie hats, relegated to the back of your closet in favor of more universally presentable fare (read: ties without black and white checkers) and the thought of heading out to a show on a weeknight is far from your mind. Not cool at all. But if you're afforded the chance to relive those wonderful years, if only for a night, it's definitely an enjoyable time.
Overall, a fine night out for those several hundred reminiscers who were willing to shell out the 29 dollars (thanks, Live Nation!) to see this show. All three bands delivered fine performances, aging ska fans got to show their kids yet another uncool side to them, and two promising bands continued their rise. Anthem is my favorite as well (and I've been following them since Losing Streak), so nah, it's not just you. Dude, thank you! I thought I was alone in thinking that "Anthem" was LTJ's best album! So many solid songs! So proud of them there Swellers boys. Its awesome to see good people who make great music tasting some success. And for the record, I'm not sure whether I hate Cage or Disney worse. They can both fuck off. Ft. Laud also got Rog coming out to sing Rehasher's "Lift" with The Swellers backing up. Love that song. Saw them the next night in Ft. Lauderdale. Despite Buddy and Chris both feeling under the weather, it was a tremendously fun show as always. I'll say it now, those of us in FL get the best of the LTJ shows. They played "Short on Ideas/One Last Cigarette" in Philly. It was awesome. It was a depressingly light crowd though, but the bar was packed with other old folks. This show was cancelled in Seattle. Fucking bullshit, though that first paragraph is right on the money. I wasn't looking forward to being hungover and tired the next morning at work. can't wait to see the Swellers when they come out to Toledo next month. Mexican pizza is fucking delicious. That is all. That's a surprisingly fantastic setlist. No History of a Boring Town, though? Odd... Saw this show in Chicago... fun while they actually played songs, but their stage banter is so damn embarrassing. | Features
