The word “ska” tends to evoke a shudder in most people these days, which is very unfortunate for bands that can play it well. Codename: Rocky is a tight ska-core band with a big horn section consisting of two trumpets, a trombone and a sax. The horns often add to the background layers of the songs, and when they are in the foreground they often take a melody-countermelody approach with the horns splitting up, which they pull off well. They have a guitar player who gets the job done, just filling out the sound as is the case with most ska-core bands. No ten minute guitar solos, but he is the lead singer as well so we can forgive him. The bass playing shines in parts, and the drumming is solid with some impressive moments. ska in you fucking brain!!!. i am from paraguay, CodenameRocky is the best group of ska core!!!!. While it comes out of the gate strong instrumentally, the vocals on this album leave something to be desired. The vocalist seems to have a problem listening to himself and the rest of the badn as he sings, and therefore goes sharp an awful lot. (track 4 especially). otherwise strong, but needs a few more tracks to avoid the EP label. this album is amazing and greg, you are a great journalist. these guys put on a great live show and are always entertaining on stage. if you are not open to "new" types of music and you are a closed minded individual, this is not the cd for you. Whoever this greg character is, you are an idiot. Ska doesnt exist anymore. Any band with any horns is destined for failure. Who is this Greg - the Cap'N? Why can't people rip mp3s right! Listen to "For The Last Time" you'll understand. I really like ska-punk, i hate it that no one listens to it anymore and that people would rather listen to emo pop shit, when i found out about codename rocky i was excited its not very often that a new ska-punk band comes out and is actually good. This album is good and it shows codename rocky's great musician ship, as much as i like this new release by these guys, there first album "no time to waste" is my personal favorite though. check that album out. ive also seen these guys live 2 times and there live show is very entergetic i sugggest you see them if you have the chance, i actually just saw them last friday open for the aquabats, i got up on stage and sang there song keyhole with them (i was sporting my larry arms shirt). if Bill or Rich ever read this i just want to say what up |
