Epitaph Records -- Millencolin

Pop punk- the genre itself incites fury amongst "so called" punks nowadays. But, in a time when countless Blink 182 clones flood the mainstream pop punk arena, we have a band like the Queers.

This is actually my first queers album and I wasn't expecting much at first, I knew they were pop punk and modern pop punk was about as lame as any MTV pop boy band, but I downloaded some songs anyway. Holyshit is all I have to say!

This album makes me think of the Ramones combined with early Green Day, pop punk masterpeices the way they should be. From the catchy opener "Get A Life And Live It" the album starts out with classic Ramone-esque buzz guitars, catchy as hell choruses and some of the funniest lyrics I've ever heard. They play plenty of love songs, but they come of beautifully and actually make you feel something, unlike these stupid whinny voiced pop punkers like New Found Glory or Sum 41. My personal favorites are "See Ya Later Fuckface", the best pop punk song I've heard since Blitzkrieg Bop, "It's Cold Outside"- a cover of a '50's classic that comes off very touching, and "Danny Vapid" with the catchy chorus- "Danny Vapid he ain't no faggot he's alright with me!".

Overall, this is an excellent album and quite possibly a landmark album as well. There have been other great pop punk albums within the past year- Randy's Human Atom Bombs most notably, but this is the best in my opinion, very consistent and entertaining. Plus I'm more into dark hardcore punk than anything and I loved this, so I think most of you will dig this bigtime. This is a must have, buy it now for your own health.

album comment: good record, a return to form for the queers .. their last few albums kinda blew.

misc. comment: scott, you really are a douchebag, and you should asphyxiate in a hole somewhere, and take all your asskissing fans with you .. they almost make me as sick as you do.

Limp biscuit is pussy music dude, and roids are for pussys who can't workout. Plus I wasn't alive in the '60's so I wouldn't know that smart guy. By the way, I don't who the hell this candlebox crap is, but it's probably pussy music too. God damn I hate little kids like you- you're probably no older than 15.

I applaud your comment Scott. Hilarious.
Haven't heard this yet, but I haven't heard a Queers album I didn't like, so I'll be picking this up shortly.
As for a first Queers purchase, I would go with 'Beat Off'. It's got lotsa sped up Ramones style songs mixed in with some slower Beach Boys style stuff. My favorite Queers album. Catchy as hell.

This is the most bitter, pathetic sites sometimes. If you don't like a band, just say you don't like them and move on. Don't be some sort of asshole and horbor ill will towards a band because they aren't "punk" to you. Some of them still play punk music, even if it isn't the style you like. Stop being an asshole because your band sucks, or it failed or your jealous of the attention they get. This gets really fucking old.

I read once that their lead singer was quoted saying- "Why can't someone like both Black Flag and the Beach Boys"- that's kinda what this record is like- dark in a humorous way, funny, happy, and poppy- but punk to the core

    My Score:

FenixTX- fuck those pussys, and fuck Blink, Sum, and NFG as well. TheQueers rule and get pop punk right- those other bands don't.

    My Score:

Well, it sure would have been nice for 'Pleasant Screams' to get compared with reference to some of their other stuff. I mean it's obvious they sound like the RAMONES but what about Joe's other favorite band, the BEACH BOYS? Does that style crop up at all? I mean a coupla previous records like 'Move Back Home' and 'Punk Rock Confidential' are practically all pop with one or two snotty little punk songs thrown into the mix. So it woulda been nice to know if the new one was approached from this angle, but anyway it's good that you like 'em because the QUEERS definately don't get enough respect or acclaim. fuck FENIXTX.

This is nice when it's coming from someone who actually HEARD half of a band's material that dates back to 83. That's like buying Adios Amigos before hearing a GODDAMN thing the Ramones did before suh.

hahahaha...true that scott. Fuck all of them. I havent heard this one yet but I am planning on downloading it soon. I dont really have the money to go around and buy everything that comes out nowadays and there a bunch of new releases that I need to get way before this. I downloaded some of their older stuff and liked it a lot.. it was really funny and also short and too the point. The best music I can think of is a song that doesnt get old and tiring before its over... this stuff doesnt last long enough to bore you and in the short time it is on this stuff rocked my pants off... dont sweat my "5" thats only because they dont have a N/A.
