Iron Rain

Silent Sins [7 inch] (2010)

Panic / How Soon Is Now

Iron Rain tease their eventual full-length with a precisely eight-minute onslaught of '90s-styled metallic hardcore on Silent Sins.

Their debut for Panic Records pays a sensible tribute to the band's influences--this is heavy, shifting hardcore kinda in the vein of Unbroken and Strife, though the band is usually a little slower and has this almost Converge-like abrasiveness to them more often. Still, there are some complexities here that keep the 7" interesting, with plenty of tempo changes wielded while maintaining that fairly brutal slant. Opener "Dead Letter" lurches and pounds sometimes while the title track provides a typical set of stop-start guitars that are nonetheless done well.

A very, very decent showing, and with a little more time to develop and stretch out I could see this band making a serious dent.
