These days you can take a small stone, close your eyes, and throw it, and you'll probably hit an metal-emo-hardcore band in the head with it...there are THAT many of them out there now. From Autum To Ashes (FATA) will take that thrown stone, catch it, and hurl it back in your face.

When listening to Too Bad You're Beautiful be prepared to strap yourself in because it is quite a ride. Their music will put you to sleep like a baby's lullaby, then smash you awake with the most gut wrenching, floor pounding hardcore this side of the Mississippi freakin' river. You think you've heard double bass kicks before, after listening to FATA you wonder if you'll ever hear them played this good. The lead singer screams his ass off while the drummer supplies the soft, melodic vocals.

Too Bad You're Beautiful starts off with a pulverizing hardcore romp "The Royal Crown vs Blue Duchess", then it breaks into fantastic metal laced "Cherry Kiss." After being blown away with the first two songs you brace yourself for another furious romp...but wait, what's this? Acoustic guitar? Ahhh...how soothing. The next song "Chloroform Perfume" might be one of the greatest acoustic emo-hardcore tune written...great lyrics like "we sit in corners and sip burnt coffee, count the tiles up on the ceiling, lets skip the pretense and cut straight to the dying..." The acoustic ballad naturally explodes in wailing guitars at the end and us, the listener, is left a quivering mess. "Mercury Rising" is a trippy spoken work piece about punching your TV untill your hand is a bloody pulp...cool, very cool. "Capeside Rock" is truly a blazing song, massive bursts of speed metal guitar riffs break ingto seering melodic hardcore. "Take Her to the Music Store" is yet again another example of how this band can change tempo and song structure in a blink of an eye, ixing smash mouth hardcore with emotion filled serenades. Another outstanding song is "Reflections"...it starts of nice and mello, acoustic guitars picking to lazy drum beats, then guess what? BOOM! We're smacked square in the jaw with blitzkrieging hardcore screams. Finally, I have to honestly say that the final song, "Short Stories With Tragic Endings" is well... a masterpiece. When you hear the violins you wonder, "what's this?" then you hear the beautiful female vocalist and you are being wisked away to la-la land, happy, blissfull then...KA-BOOM! This song is 9 minutes long and is simply amazing, amazing...

If you like your hardcore loud, fast, with floor punch breakdowns and screaming metal guitars then this is your CD. If you like your softer, emotional, heart-felt tunes that make you close your eyes and think of buttercups in a field on a warms summers day, then this is for you. If you like the two styles smashed together, violently, then you must stop reading this bullshit review (my first) and run to your music store and get FATA's Too Bad You're Beautiful. This band is truly outstanding.

Not only does this band kick ass but this album has incredible flow and contrast. I bought this cd because, get this, i heard mercury rising, the track that is "a trippy spoken work piece about punching your TV untill your hand is a bloody pulp." Yeah, and it was so cool and like, not yet done before i had to go out and here this band and they basically rock my socks.

I don't know if I could declare FATA as the best band ever, but they are my personal favorite. and the female vocals on "short stories with tragic endings" is melanie wills, the lead singer for one true thing if any of you were wondering. I haven't heard any of that bands songs though. Excellent review as well. I like your rhetoric.

Kudo's to the guy who labled the vox of FATA as "The growler/yeller dude."

That is fucking rich! Silly kid. Well, this CD is great! Hardcore at it's finest, these guys put on a great show and I'd recommend seeing them live or picking up an album.

    My Score:

washington dc punk rockers from autumn to ashes shred all preconcieved boundaries of early 70s crossover r&b on their debut lp on capitol records. this album features testicle melting guitar licks by shitpiss mcgrizzlefuck, fuzzy happy smiley rectum blasts by drummer imbibe karim and semen gargling skittle blonz by crooner falfei algornaok.

the above paragraph makes as much sense as the pissy songwriting on this album. if youve never heard from autumn to anus(es), they can best be described as a band that should be lumped in with the 59,000 other generic metalbore bands on bastions of underground music such as equal pigeons, trustkill and ferret up your ass records. FATA (which stands for FORNICATE, ALL TEEN-AGERS!!! (parents take warning)))))))))) try to distance themselves from their youth market FM rivals by combining the power of Yes-like nine minute acoustic guitar arrangements, hackneyed double bass metal core beatdown chuggery, shrill falsetto cock gargling juxtaposed with growly roar bear orgasms and filter it all through a listener friendly futuristic sounding audio miracle called pro tools. lyrically, a fat, balding man screams lovely dovey tales about his high school sweetheart, cheating on biology tests and keg parties. WHOS TO BLAME!! for this atrocity?! i blame the pimply faced cross dressing mop head mall denizens of YOUR TOWN!! fuck those GUYS!! but ANYWAY, THATS ANOTHER STORY ALL TOGETHER!!

i rate this album a 2 because it does occasionally work, especially the cover of "fat black bicycle champion theme from myke tysons punch out" and the few moments where the playing is so tight that it makes me want to drink a bottle of whiskey and wrap an electric blue camaro around a telephone pole. other than that i can't get into this frumble guck pishadilly at all.

I hate these fuckers.... the guy has no talent for singing... if they wanted to sell more cd's theyd just get rid of the growler/yeller dude and let the drummer have lead vocals. But this is just my opinion.... bash away narrowminded fuckers

I think the lyrics are no good. Im sick of hearing bands whine about girls. So I take the fact that most of the lyrics are screaming and hard to decipher and pretend they are singing some politically aware song...

    My Score:

where can i start with this album? i think i'll start by saying that this is the greatest hardcore album ever!!! In my opinion maybe the best of any kind of music! This cd is a mix of krazy energetic songs that make you want to rip someones head off, and soft break downs that are so soothing! The guitar rifs are incredibly amazing!! and it isn' always the same thing like on most hardcore cds(example: poison the well). the drumming is also magnificient! Finaly, short stories with tragic endings, the last song on this cd, is possibly my favorite song ever. You are at first relaxed by the violins and soothing guitars, and then starts the hardpounding distortion part! The last five minutes of the song i believe is the best part of the song. With the beautiful female vocals. At first, i hesitated to listen to it, but the i was totaly amazed by the great lyrics. All in all, this cd rocks!! you must check it out!

I am semi-interested in this album but it is not great to me. The thing that pisses me off though is the fact that everone has to think that their musical tastes are right and others are wrong. If someone likes this band, good. Maybe it will open their eyes to new and better things. So everyone else that has written a fucking whinny little girl comment below FUCK YOU! Let people enjoy what they want to and shut the fuck up!

    Insert melodic octave lead.

    Chug chug chug.

Sing about the girl who dumped you and why you can't decide whether to kill her or kill yourself.

    Wear tight clothes.

thats pretty much what every song on this is like.

    My Score:

I like Hatebreed, Strife, Slick Shoes, Blink 182, Good Riddance, Satanic Surfers, Bigwig, Rise Against, Jimmy Eat World, Reel Big Fish, Sick of it all, Choke, Layaway Plan, mxpx, grade, the weakerthans, propagandhi, mad caddies, bad religion, unwritten law, reach the sky, weezer, rancid, AFI, the offspring, Bracket, strung out, ten foot pole, madball, no fun at all, All/Descendents, sublime, ozma, greenday, NUFAN, death by stereo, NOFX, Warzone, Earth Crisis, Frenzal Rhomb, mustard plug, randy, goldfinger, the Living End, pennywise, limp the bosstones, the goo goo dolls, the clash, the police, the who, oasis, blur, supergrass, snuff, ensign, papa roach, gob, saves the day, kid dynamite, 88 fingers louie, dropkick murphy's, pulley and diesel boy.

However, when asked i will deny listening to a number of these bands - but they all can be good if not amazing when you're in the right mood or right situation.

felt like sharing, enjoy different types of music and bands, just deny it later. Avoid rap, country and Kid Rock.

listen,i can't say i have a lot of history with this genre. i enjoy the first ptw album a lot, drowningman is way sweet, and shai hulud is the jam. but my knowledge gets a little flaky from there on out. but one thing i definitely know is that this band is wholly derivative. seriously. just terrible. theses lyrics you guys think are so great suck major ass. while i might despise thursday for ripping off at the drive-in in horrible ways, they actually write excellent lyrics. why? because while they might be singing about the same old boy/girl song and dance, they never have to come right out and say it. subtely is lost in this genre as far as lyrics go. these guys are seriously just playing into the hands that bands like new found glory and the starting line do. people need to understand that life exists outside of the opposite sex (or the same sex, or the genderless). fuck this band, fuck them in their stupid asses.

for the guy that said FATA ripped off "you and i" (who are an amazing band, everyone should check them out. and obviously the assistant) you are wrong. FATA is nothing like you and i. FATA is melodic hardcore w/ messages about friends and girlfriends, loves and etc while You and I is hardcore w/ offtimey indie complexes thrown in there w/ politically motivated lyrics and such.
    both bands are incredible though.

I'm glad you're not 14. I'm glad you got to throw out there that you saw Bad Brains back in the day, don't forget to tally up your scene points in the scorebook, though w've all seen Bad Brains in one embarassing form or another in the past few years so don't be too happy. If you caught Black Flag maybe I'll raise an eyebrow. But then I'l still proceed to think of you as an idiot for listening to From Autumn To Ashes.

No matter how old you are, or what you've managed to see,FATA is still a bad You and I ripoff, trying as hard as possible to ride the wave to major label with bands like Poison the Well and Thursday, as is clear by their recent tour and show selections. If you think they rock, it is due to the fact you simply have fallen out of touch with what hardcore is.
The point of this, is go buy a No Justice 7 inch. They're a lot better.

    Tim.
    again.

Ready Here's my points on this, and to think I never feel the need to address know nothing idiot 14 year old reviews, but I will because people are missing important points.
    1) Calling a band a "hardcore band" would suggest it was part of a scene, I wont get into arguments about what hardcore is and isn't, but to classify a band as such would suggest scene ties, support, etc. FATA don't have that they are an unoriginal emo-metal band riding the bandwagon established as the official next big thing. If you attempt to deny that, it just proves you know nothing about this band.

    2) Please go pick up a cd or record by a little band from NJ that broke up a while back called You and I. this is not a plug for them, I'm really not that huge a fan of their music. But guess who is? FATA, they basically have made a money making career rehashing songs written by a bunch of kids who couldn't afford to eat a few years back. It's not about originality either, it's about theft and respecting bands who were actually part of a scene and dedicated to what they did. Instead FATA play's You and I covers with a poppy guitar riff thrown in and dumbed down more girly lyrics.

Throw some fit, but rip off artists don't deserve support.
