Published on May 21st 2002 After enduring the long lines and sweltering heat, I remember finally crossing the precious gates of the 2000 Warped Tour. Wandering over to the second stage, I found a very sparse crowd and a punk-pop three piece called Reset. I knew of them because of my radio show, and after receiving their disc No Limits, I had been spinning a track called “Pollution” quite heavily. They looked amazed as I was singing the lyrics to some of their tunes, as many of the openers of Warped would be. Enter 2002, and just when I was looking through my CD’s and wondering the whereabouts of these Canadian punkers, I stumble upon an article on the web about a group called Simple Plan, containing ex-members of Reset. I was shocked to see that the band is already on Atlantic Records, before I have ever even heard of them. So I grab the album, based on the fact that Reset was pretty cool. Driving home, I’m rocking out to “I’d Do Anything”, and laugh when I hear a familiar punk popper in the background. As the album continues, I find the songs pretty damn catchy. Sure they are all your basic run-of- the-mill cheesy punk pop, but if you take it for what its worth, the songs are pretty well structured. “The Worst Day Ever”, and “I’m Just A Kid” (you know, the video with the cheerleader hottie) could get stuck in your head whether you want to admit it or not. And if you like Blink and Mest (replace the midgets with hotties, and Wasting Time looks like SP’s album cover at arms length), you might enjoy this album. However as I listened closely to this record, I became more concerned. The lyrics to these songs seem like they were the ones I wrote in 7th grade math class. The song topics cover summer jobs, forgetting to study, running away from home, and strict parents. Hey but wait, in the video those dudes didn’t look that young…and they are not. After perusing their bios, I see that most of the members are of legal drinking age. “Last night I had to study for this test/I forgot man I’m dead”. Dude, high school should be a memory for you guys now. “Sometimes this house feels like a prison/that I cant leave behind”. Then move out! My point is that maybe Atlantic had a “Simple Plan”. Create a pop punk band to cater to the TRL market. It’s just weird not seeing these guys on and indie anywhere. And being the same age as these guys, I know that my life has become a little more complicated than “I took my dad’s car/I never thought he would find out”. Musically this album is pretty catchy if you are into this genre. You’ll be tapping away on the wheel. But lyrically, I just can’t see any sincerity here. This can't come from that broken heart seen in the bands logo.
So crank this album on the way to the beach. Just don’t let the other cars get close enough to hear that you’re just a kid.

Well played Aaron Bad. This one time, I was in a room with some boys from my school. We got a little drunk and I ended up fingering one of their assholes. I hope they die on the way to their next show. biggest pussys ever. these punk wanna-bes should do the world a favour and stop making music. I am so fucking sick of people ragging on Simple Plan because they write songs about 'kid stuff'. So what? Did you ever think maybe teenagers want to listen to music too? Maybe we need songs we can actually relate to? Huh? Not a bunch of shit about 'oh I'm so rich and famous, I have everything and you don't' or some dumb love song that I know nothing about. I'm 16, I'm too young for that kind of shit. I need songs about school, parental problems, and other teenage problems. Simple Plan writes about stuff that's important to me, stuff I care about and can relate to, that's why they're my favorite band. And to the haters, shut the fuck up already! Obviously it ain't doing any good hating on them or they would have stopped already, so just leave them alone! Now, I know it would be stupid to complain like 3/4's of the people commenting on this album, but in all due honesty...Simple Plan fuckin' blows more than a hairdryer. you say that the drummer is worst but do you play drum? me i do and the simple plan song's are harder than green day songs. so if you don't know what you're talking about just shut up!!! OK, I love this CD. I've loved it for a couple years! You guys who are complaining how much you hate them and how SP moans and complains in their album...YOU'RE DOING THE SAME THING! I don't know what they call punk, all I know is that in my opinion punk is...A rock form characterized by aggressive volume, short, angry vocals and often bitter political or hopeless emotional content. Punk's recent revival is attributed to the dominance of sound-alike “alternative” bands.... This is exactly what simple plan is trying to be, but the sad part is that they are far from it!. The closest "alternative" band is...well I can't even think of one, maybe thats because the Sex pistols and The Clash were the greatest fucking ever. I am so sick of hearing about what people think is punk. I hate labeling things because everyone has their own interputation of what it is. So Simple Plan fucking Sux! Got it? They write the worst lyrics of anyone I have ever heard. Pop punk lyrics usually suck but these guys are the kings of writing shit. Oh yeah, I don't give a flying fuck if Reset "rocked". They fucking turned into a steaming plate of Fred Durst's shit after he had swallowed a thousand cocks and took it in the ass from Carson Daley. at warped tour i saw the lead singer come out from the backstage area and there were a couple of girls there wanting to get his autograph. instead of signing their shirts he said "no, im busy." and he walked back to the backstage area where he came from. Simple Plan sucks. They are absolutely terrible. to the guy talking about pop punk haters, i hope you choke and die, getting girls with "oy oy oy" songs? no one ever said that, how did you find your trendy pathetic ass to this website? and noone fucking "bumps" punk that prooves youre a fucking moron, pleeeeeeaaaasee die its not the best album of any year, its popular and catchy, i dont care who says if its "punk rock" or not because thats gay, but its just not well written music and they should all take their lives Shut Up Best album of 2002, period. ok. the songs sucked. the subjects sucked. the lyrics sucked. and that guyz voice got hell of annoying after like-- the first song. damn. this band sucks all-around! i wish everyone listened to good music (punk rock). the world would be a better place. Give it up. These guys are just plain annoying. Yes we dont have to listen to them but its kind of hard when every time we turn on the radio they are blasting some gay ass song by em. They are friggin everywhere and it annoys us because of all the idiotic people who get fooled and think these guys are punk. I've been meaning to pick up this CD.
