I love REAL metal and really don't like the new hardcore scene that's emerged. I also love the og emo bands like Mineral, Elliott, The Get Up Kids, Jimmy Eat World, Eastern Youth, The Casket Lottery, Weezer.
Some metal bands I like are Rhapsody, Blind Guardian, Dimmu Borgnir, Necrophagist, Nile, Decapitated, Widow, Nocturnal Rites, Wintersun, Ensiferum, Belphegor...
Some of the newer guilty pleasure type bands are a Wilhelm Scream, Anberlin, Damone, and even Soilwork (whose first three albums are REALLY fucking good!)
I grew up on punk and still love all the skate punk era type of stuff as well as bands like Descendents, Minor Threat, Lagwagon, Pennywise, All, No Use For a Name, that type of stuff.
Big fan of alternative/singer-songwriter stuff like Foo Fighters, Portishead, Pete Yorn, Smashing Pumpkins, Soundgarden, Beth Orton, Radiohead, Ben Folds, Aimee Mann, James Taylor, Neil Diamond.
My Number One favorite artist out of ALL genres is Rufus Wainwright. Simply amazing.
I like the heavy ugly stuff too, like Scarlet's first ep, early Dillinger Escape Plan, Pig Destroyer, Sleep, The End, Neurosis. pretty much good doom and grind bands, I guess.

I play guitar and have been on tour a couple of times and know what it takes to make this band shit actually happen, so if I'm negative, someone really sucks, but I always try not to be if it's not warranted. Everyband must work really hard to get somewhere...even Aiden? hahaha...
but seriously, being a musician first and a music lover always, I can't belittle bands from an ignorant perspective. It may sound cocky, but I know what I'm talking about.
