In a odd coincidence, both MSNBC and The New York Times have decided to tackle the roots and present of the "emo" movement with stories run nearly consecutively.

In the Times piece, the writer draws comparisons between My Chemical Romance, Fall Out Boy and the glam rock of the 80s. Of course, the article makes plenty of references to Pete Wentz' of Fall Out Boy and his recent camera "misfunction."

MSNBC approaches the subject differently, concentrating on the roots of the genre and making plenty of reference to early emotional hardcore acts like Ian MacKaye's Embrace, Guy Picciotto's Rites of Spring, and later staples like Sunny Day Real Estate, The Get Up Kids and the Promise Ring.
