Whenever there has been news about bands signed to Mojo Records (Goldfinger, Reel Big Fish, The Pilfers or Weston) the question has lingered about the official "status" of the label. While there has been very little activity from Mojo recently, there was never any official word that it was dead (although the web site it down now). The rumor has also been that Universal Records (the major that owned Mojo) had dropped the label entirely. While some of the Mojo bands are still listed on the Universal roster, it is merely due to their previous recordings. A recent Goldfinger interview with PunkBands.com sheds some light on the status of the label:PB: I heard that MoJo has had some serious problems after the departure of The Pilfers and troubles with Reel Big Fish. Did MoJo die when ska died or is the label still alive? GF: When who died? MoJo's DEAD….. absolutely! We're trying to find a home right now, so is Reel Big Fish. It's all good, we made some good records….. good times(he starts getting all sentimental). We're not sad at all, we're excited. Many possibilities now. Anything can happen! So there you have it, the aforementioned bands can be considered unsigned-independents now.
