Next month Canadian craft brewery Beau's Brewing Co. will throw their annual Oktoberfest music festival and charitable fundraiser. The event marks its 11th year in 2019 with Vancouver indie rock supergroup The New Pornographers headlining the main stage on Friday, September 20 and Canadian hip-hop luminary Shad capping the event on Saturday the 21st. The event will once again play host to the punk-focused Black Forest Stage, headlined this year by Winnipeg duo Mobina Galore and Montreal's Pale Lips, with bands like The Penske File, Lost Love, Jon Creeden And The Flying Hellfish, and Audio Visceral among the performers. Hey Ontario! Long-running British punk act The Adicts are coming to town in August. The band will be at The Mod Club in Toronto on August 18 with support from The Sentimentalists and The Anti-Queens. July 25 through the 28th will see the inaugural Side by Side Weekend hit Ottawa, Ontario. One of the spiritual successors fo the now-defunct Ottawa Explosion, the even will see four days of shows go down at the neighboring venues Black Squirrel Books and House of TARG. Bands playing the weekend include The Steve Adamyk Band, WLMRT, Jon Creeden And The Flying Hellfish, Dboy, CELL, BBQT, Life In Vacuum, Deathsticks, Bondar, Bonnie Doon and many more. The contest is in celebration of the excellent audio documentary Stay Free: The Story of the Clash, which is narrated by Public Enemy's own Chuck D. The documentary is a whopping eight episodes and covers the band's entire history. You can (and should) check that out here, right now!
Also, this year is the 40th Anniversary of London Calling, without question, one of the most important albums in punk (and music) history. We're going to be celebrating that album in the Fall, but be sure to listen to it, like, right now… or after you listen to the documentary!
