Operation Ivy Reunion?

Anonymous writes : an underground magazine out of the san francisco bay area has given an eagerly awaited indication that jesse and lint (tim armstrong) have been bringing up the topic of a reunion. the band broke up after a short two year underground reign at gilman st. as the best ska/punk rock band around. after their breakup almost eleven years ago, they are still a heavy influence on today's music. but after too long of a wait, the band has been rumored to reconciling and doing another u.s. tour, this time in their own bus, not an old car. if indeed they do get back together and tour, look out, cuz all you posers out there will be shown what real ska/punk rock is.

Although I'd love this, there have been rumors like this for years...

i'd hope they would tour to europe too, if it's really true! they influenced so many bands including millencolin, goldfinger, green day, less than jake, reel big fish etc. oi is maybe the best band all time, rancid is also cool, but it isn't operation ivy...

I doubt this will ever happen...BUT...if it did, it would be a reunification of the greatest punk/ska band of all time. No one could EVER match the energy and passion of Op Ivy, they were unique in that sense. However, if Op Ivy is ever going to come back, the time is right. UNITY is at an all-time low in the punk movement, and the vision and passion that Op Ivy brought to the scene is all but gone. If there ever could be a band to ressurrect what it means to be a punk in the name of UNITY, Operation Ivy would be the one to do it. These guys are fucking awesome, they could sell out fricken stadiums if they ever came back. Heres hoping it happens, but I doubt it will. even though there have been rumors about a reunion for years, it makes sense that now would be the time to get back together. w/ lars about to do a US tour with his side project, lars and the bastards, this puts rancid on hold. this could allow tim and matt to get back together for op ivy but who knows what all 4 of the original members are doing (i.e. producing, sidebands)

Jesse is in Common Rider. Dave is working construction right now but was in the band Schlong. And we all know what the fuck Tim and Matt are doing.

no they shouldnt get back together, though i love them that is the stupidest ass idea ive ever heard... it wont be the same, it will be some big ass coroprate tour, just cause some skater kids know that less than jake, and green day likes them, i hope they reconsider

I hope they don't reunite. The whole mystique and pure energy they once had would never be the same. Tim has completely changed and so has Jesse. It wouldn't be the same Op Ivy, although I would love to hear 'Yellin in My Ear' just once live. We all have our dreams I guess.

It would be really cool, but it wouln't be the same as the old operation ivy. Lint's style hasn't changed much, but Jesse's has. And who knows what dave is doing.

I interviewed Jesse Michaels in December and naturally this topic came up. The band members are on good terms, but the possibility of a reunion has never been suggested, because both Jesse and Tim are busy with other projects. So unless there has been some drastic change in the last month, don't believe the rumors. You can read my interview directly at Punk International or Fat Free Radio.

Dave Mello started a band with his brother Pat (an OpIvy roadie) called Schlong. I don't know if they still play, but they were on some compilation put out by some record company a few years back. They're not bad either. They're no OpIvy, but they're not bad.stu"Through our bleeding we are one..."

I honestly believe that this is all bullshit because with Jesse in Common Rider, Dave in Schlong, and Matt + Tim in Rancid, they won't have time. I don't think they would all just ditch they're work just to reunited. Just like Jesse says, I believe that it's better that they stay the way they are as history. Don't get me wrong, I love Operation Ivy to death but still, I respect bands that who can end cold turkey. I don't like reunions because it always adds the danger of the band getting worse. I think that they ended on perfect terms and what is done, is done.

I am very doubtful of an Op Ivy reunion.. Dave dropped out of the music business.. Lint and Matt are quite busy with Rancid, and Jesse is busy with Common Rider.. It would be an amazing thing if they did a reunion tour, but I am 99% positive they aren't going to..

2 years later and no reunion, doesn't look like it's gonna happen. It would be cool but just think of how major music people like mtv would be all over this. It would turn into a bad thing real quick.

a reunion would be good for their bank accounts, but bad for the bands image! they once said that if they ever sold out they would break up! wouldn't his be selling out? operation ivy were fueled on youth anger, their not young and they ain't angry anymore! it would be to nicey and mushy!!!! I've only just got a Operation Ivy t-shirt after wanting one for 7 years! my girlfriend went out to LA and picked me one up fron there! They don't sell ANY Operation Ivy T-shirts or any stuff really in England!!! Does anyone know a place that will ship them to the uk, as i want more op ivy t-shirts :) Roberto
