Comeback Kid signs to Victory Records

Victory Records has announced the signing of Winnipeg, Manitoba's Comeback Kid. The band is currently at the Blasting Room in Ft. Collins, CO recording their second full length with Bill Stevenson (Descendents/All/Black Flag/Only Crime). The band's Victory debut is slated for a January 25th `05 release.

As previously reported, the band is set to hit the road this fall in Europe with Champion. Extensive North American touring is expected in support the release of their new record.

i think that comeback kid rocks and just because they dont look like a real christan band they are doing a lot more than any other worldy bands or some of the christan bands like dc talk or petra.

The same label that hosts: Hatebreed, Atreyu, Taking Back Sunday, Hawthorne Heights... And the label that along with Trustkill, has practically ruined hardcore...most of the bands they sign are pure shit. Exceptions: Their Ska Department, Grey Area, A.18, and Reach The Sky

Oi, I can see it now, the people who said that real hardcore isn't marketable to the masses will be eating their words. This band is actually accessible, as AP called it, it's sXe hardcore for people who think XXX refers to Ron Jeremy.

Fuck, if Comeback Kid are straight edge then I think they are those kids that the XXX refers to Ron Jeremy. I have seen them on numerous times getting shit faced watching strippers when they are back in the peg.

yea...i wouldnt have expected this, but then again its no suprise. victory has been crap for a really long time...i still like comeback kid (one of the few hardcore acts today that i do like), i wish them the best. but yeah...wacky.

Bane features better musicianship and better lyrics, they're just the better band. I like Comeback Kid, but I find it really strange that some people consider them to be the saviors of hardcore. This is especially odd coming from people who claim to not the like the genre to begin with.

It's hard to believe that there was once a time when it wouldn't be surprising for Victory to sign a band like this... remember when Victory was all about the straight edge hardcore? Strife, Snapcase, Earth Crisis, Deadguy, etc. etc. I had militant straight edge fans who swore by Victory just because of their "strict" rules... of course, then Grade and Thursday came along and things haven't been the same since. (No judgement there, just an observation)

Who gives a fuck? Does it really matter what label they're on? It's not like this band has any pop sensibilities that can be expanded upon, so I'm not sure why everyone is so concerned. Oh, and they still can't touch Bane.

It's just the fundamental fact that they'reon Victory. I got into an argument a few weeks ago because I was bashing Victory. The guy said that if Victory ever showed any interest in my band, I'd jump at the chance. First off, my band is even less than a part time thing so there's never going to be any label interest. But assuming I was in a band that was moving it's way up in the underground, I'd never even consider signing to Victory. From all accounts that I've heard (including people that know him) Tony Brummel is a dick, they don't let the bands do what they want (Thursday couldn't put in their lyrics in their insert and couldn't use the right artwork), and the most damning of all, the contracts. I would never want to be bound to that corrupt company after the initial entity that signed with them is dissolved. This is just the tip of the iceberg.

I think it goes both ways. A band like hawthorne heights, a generic crap local band,was molded into victorys best first week seller ever, and now are getting big as fuck....while bands like voodoo glow skulls who have been around forever dont even get promoted at all.

Didn't Rev do the same thing with In My Eyes and the Explosion? I'll never understand all the Fat Wreck bashers on this site, they seem to have better ethics than most of the labels associated strictly with hardcore today.

Bane is a great hardcore band. Comeback Kid, not so much. Bane, PIB, and Ensign are the only three hardcore bands i truely enjoy listening to that still make music. Fuck double bass drum driven bullshit hardcore! I fucking hate it.

2001 I believe. They released their CD around the same time as Bigwig did. The only difference is Ensign has put out a cover EP.... Ill check that band out. Thanks for the suggestion. Very hard to find decent melodic hardcore/old school esque hardcore bands that dont totally suck wind.

Known about this for weeks... don't like it at all. Victory will probably promote them as well as they do bands like minus, hoods, a18, voodoo glow skulls... aka... not at all. this sucks. I love Comeback Kid, but i was really hoping for pretty much any other label.
