2005 Coachella bands announced

The line up has been announced for this year's Coachella Valley Music Festival. Bands playing include Gang Of Four, the Blood Brothers, Weezer, the Futureheads, New Order, the Kills, Sage Francis, Razorlight, Rilo Kiley, the Arcade Fire, the Faint, Snow Patrol, Wolf Eyes, Bright Eyes, Thrice, Spoon, Radio 4 and many others. The headliners for the two days will be Coldplay and Nine Inch Nails respectively.

The two day event will run over the weekend of to May 1 and will be again held at the Empire Polo Field in Indio, California.

Wow, it gets better every year. I heard David Bowie still might be a surprise act, that would be awesome. Maybe that guy from Jane's Addiction can get his act together this year and actually deliver a great laloopoolza. Any 4 or 5 of these bands would be a hell of a lot better than Warped. Anyway, cool list

Yeah, too bad....$75 is by far worth it to see either day, if anybody has never been its an amazing day, water is cheap, plenty of space top move around, amazing sound system, a really fun time. Its on the polo grounds so its all grass fileds everywhere, you can just lay down.

Pretty cool line up. I have to say as unpunk as it is I am looking forward to seeing NIN. They put on an amazing live show, plus they should be about finished on the new album (I think 6 years is enough time). And since Trent has described the studio sessions as 12 punches to the face I'm interested to see the product. Still a lot of money but holds more interest than Warped Tour. -Dante

i guess this years lineup is OK, but nothing here is really knocking me out. i feel kinda let down by it. weak. i saw wolf eyes open up for sonic youth in detroit a while back and it was boooooring. hair police is much better.

Incredibly weak lineup. Weezer should be over Bauhaus for sure, and probably over Coldplay (but Los Angeles has a huge boner for Coldplay, so that would never happen). Huge letdown. Also, Thrice is ridiculously out of place. -Scott

Huge letdown? Just because 2004 was amazing does not make this a juge let-down. I will not be attending this event for geographical reasons, but many of these bands in one place in simply amazing, and i would really like to know how it could have been better. Do you want John lennon to come back from the dead with George Harrison and reunite the Beatles? I am dissapointed that Coldplay is the headliner, but it's not a big deal. Bauhaus may not be as good as Weezer, but they are an older band that a lot of people want to see. Also, going for the Cocteau Twins and Gang of Four is a good idea, seeing as how I don't think the Cocteau Twins are playing any other shows, and Gang of Four won't be play many more. Solid Line-up Worth 150 bucks.

The letdown comes when, about a half-dozen or so names into each day, I start scratching my head and saying, "Who the fuck are these bands?" I've never even heard of a fair chunk of these groups, and that's saying something. Five gigantic omissions, all whom have albums coming out this spring: Beck, Queens Of The Stone Age, Ben Folds, The Mars Volta and Hot Hot Heat. All should be playing this. Goldenvoice just didn't get it done this year. Here's looking to 2006. -Scott

I hate when people do this, but I have to just because I feel it’s the only way to really make a point. I understand how you would say this pales in comparison to 2004 but the second day has some really killer acts: NIN: New album coming out, amazing live show. New Order: it’s fucking New Order man. Blackstar: one of the only hip hop acts worth the hype. Roni Size: some of the only electronic music worth not using the CD as a coaster. The Fire Arcade: love em or hate em their becoming a big ass name Thrice: well…can’t win em all. The Dresden Dolls: arguably the best new band out right now, absolutely killer. Jem: how can you not love Jem her show in the 80’s was amazing? The Blood Brothers: While not a fan of their music their live show is sort of like watching an industrial band on acid, pretty sweat. So that’s six or seven acts right there that are totally off th

Bauhaus is a legendary band with more cred and than any other band here. Their influence on bands after them is immeasurable. Weezer should be billed over Bauhaus ... phewy (no offense to Weezer)

a bit disappointed that bowie's not playing like all the rumors said, but still excited, because coachella is a good time no matter who is playing, and there are definitely some excellent bands on the bill. i'll probably be camping at lake cahuilla again...aka dirt pit surrounding a "lake."
