Red Scare to reissue the Lillingtons, Enemy You

Red Scare Records has announced that they will be reissuing the Lillingtons's Death By Television (originally released in 1999) and The Backchannel Broadcast (2001) as well as Enemy You's Where No One Knows My Name (1999). All three originally came out on Lookout! No official release dates have been set, but we'll keep you updated.

"Death by Televison" stands up next to the Teen Idols "Pucker Up " as the two BEST 3chord pop-punk records since the heyday of Screeching Weasel. Bar none. And Enemy You was a good band too... A Bad Religion clone, sure... but a good one. "City of Lost Children" is a KICKASS song.

Enemy You was a good band? They still are. Stories Never Told, which was released last year, was very good.

groovie ghoulies re-animation festival is up there too. the beatnik termites releases from around then and the first cretins cd were amazing too. fuck i miss the late 90's when there was at least a couple of great punk-pop shows a month.

I'm guessing they liked Mike Park more that the people at Lookout or something. Ben was in a fued with them a while back. It could also be because they are distributed by a major now. Or maybe i'm just stirring shit.

the ben thing evened out, that was before panic button. i'm guessing panic button folded and since lookout seems to want to be a garage label these days, the old pop-punk stuff is getting tossed to the side.

See Aubin's post down a few lines... much of Lookout/Panic Button's back catalog has gone out of print with little hope for further support down the line, and the bands involved have been able to take back their masters.

This is good news; both those records are really solid and sadly, have been out of print for awhile. I've got Backchannel Broadcast but had resigned myself to eBay for Death By Television. Now someone just needs to reissue Scream Dracula, Scream! and I'll be plenty happy.

Really? I still like it. I think the only one I don't still listen to is RFTC. It's good, but not as much fun as their other stuff. I still put songs from Scream Dracula Scream on mix CDs all the time. I'd say The State of the Art... and Hot Charity are my favourites though so maybe I'm a weird fan of theirs.

Speaking of reissues... I still can't get over how much better the new Circa Now! is. It's a crime that they left those songs off the original edition. OC

True true, a lot of people gave up on RFTC after that record. I think it had a bit to do with being on a major, that's back when people cared about stuff like that.

I think it had more to do with "Scream, Dracula, Scream" being way overproduced.

I agree. RFTC at that time was Encinitas and couldn't even claim San Diego. It is sort of like every band from a small cow farming town in Washington was trying to claim Seattle.

Barkley, although I've always appreciated your posts in the past and consider you a man of exquisite taste, you lost me here. "Cave In and Whippersnapper than Disturbed and Story of the Year" I honestly do not know what any of those bands sound like.

i'm tellin ya. you'll probably never find a bigger John Reis fan than I, and Scream Dracula Scream is a great album, major or not. The only one i ever found lacking was RFTC, but they've since made up for that one.

dammit, someone needs to rerelease the first lillingtons album. i have the lp but i want it on cd. i thought it was vastly better than either panic button release.

ramones cover. perhaps i'm just remembering it being better because when i got into it i was really really into the lookout style pop-punk stuff and i had kinda moved on by the time the other records came out

i have the first lillingtons album on my computer. it's one of those things where i would definitely buy it if i could find it, but i cant. and not even the best indie record store in my city carries the Teenage Bottlerocket album. i've been looking for that thing since it was released. bah i hate buying stuff from interpunk...but i might have to resort to it.

I just found a used copy of "Backchannel Broadcast" last week. It's not as awesome as Teenage Bottlerocket, but it's still pretty damn cool.
