"I was listening to the radio today and on the news they said that At the drive-in has decided to disband after almost a decade together." This is confirmed at their Official Site. (Update: The exact phrase they're using on the site is "indefinite hiatus")

At The Drive-In has not called it quits. This is only a rumor. They have been on tour and been putting out albums for six years straight. Im sure after 6 years of rockin we all would like to take a break. As far as my word being correct it is coming from a member of the grand royal street team and they keep us up to date on the happenings of their bands...besides if you go to their official site it DOES NOT say anything about a break up.

At The Drive-In has been one the most progressive punk bands in the last decade, along with Refused. How can you just dismiss them as sounding shitty? Your eyes are closed and your mind is shut up. Why don't you open your mind to what punk is all about.

Personally, I haven't heard enough ATDI to form a solid opinion about them (although I think arcarsenal is an amazing song). I find it a bit pigheaded to be glad any band quits. Obviously, if they've been releasing records and touring for so long, there's at least a couple of people who like them, and who the hell are you to deny these people the pleasure of listening to their music? Did the existence of ATDI cause you that much pain and anguish?

You would think that after OpIvy broke up for more or less the same reason (from what I've read and seen) that ATD would know not to fucking disband because they're "too big."

This has got to be the dumbest thing a band has ever done. Crappy indie band gets on a great label, critics call it their new cd the best album of the year, then they break up, fucking idiots.

no. the dumbest thing they could've done is continued doing something they don't feel like doing, and putting out more albums with the same shit and paraphrased lyrics. they could turn into blink. i like atdi a lot, and it sucks that this is happening, but it's better than a band being forced into doing something that disgraces themselves. more power to them, it's their choice. i just think they made the correct one.

Working hard ,then getting something that so many bands try to get, then giving it all up is stupid, this is my point. They wouldn't have been a band for 6 years if they didn't love what they did.

well you're wrong in saying a lot of bands try to get to that point. sometimes people just play music to play music. not to achieve superstar status. but anyway. im sure you'd never heard of them before relationship of command, so talking is futile.

I think that when a band does it the right way like ATDI without changing their sounds or ideals, why shouldn't they enjoy fame and respect? They said themselves that they were busting their asses for 6 years, why not enjoy the fruits of their own labor? Is it too un-punk to get respect or what?

For those of you who think that atdi are a talentless "indie" band, just take a chance and listen to their music. They put out incredibly intense, emotional (unlike many "emo" bands) records that rock hard. I personally didn't like "ROC" as much as "In/Casino/Out" but none the less, they deserved every word of praise they got. Plus their live shows were simply amazing. I for one hope this "break" doesn't last too long so they can put out more great music. If not they will be missed, and now there is just one less band to help save us from the hordes of rap-metal bands that seem to populate the mainstream.

well this is great, it's understandable that ATDI is taking a break, but if they're done for, then that's yet another punk band, like the Refused, that actually believed in sounding different and not just being a clone. Well at least there are a million awful NOFX/Blink 182/Bad Religion copies to take their place.

ATDI have not "de band" at all. they have been touring and recording non stop for like 6 years and just want a break due to exhaustion and they've been real sick lately. THEY HAVE NOT BROKEN UP!

Nope they called it quits. I had tickets to see them in Panama City last week with Our Lady Peace and they all of the sudden dropped off the tour,...I knew something was up....fucking eh! I loved them, greatest album I've ever heard.

'indefinate hiatis' does not mean 'broken up'.... so they pulled out of a few tours because they are burnt out... of course they would, it would exhausting playing shows with a level of energy like theirs every night......... rumours suck... they are taking a break!

I haven't heard much of this band, but what i have heard wasn't all that great. everyone praises them for sounding so different, but there's plenty of bands out there with a unique sound thats better than At-the-drive-in.try Lifetime,Jawbreaker,or Flogging Molly if different is what your after. This news means absolutely nothing to me.
