Rumors of health problems arose when Freeman's condition prevented him from joining the Transplants on this summer's Warped Tour.Matt Freeman recently underwent a successful surgery and his doctors have determined that his condition is not terminal. Matt is now home and recovering well. Matt and Rancid would like to thank everyone for their thoughts, love and prayers.

Maybe he purposely admitted himself to the hospital to get out of Social Distortion. Now, I love Social D and all, but I have never seen a musician so talented put to complete waste. Freeman had no impact on those songs, whatsoever. Total bummer. -Scott 8+ Replies

I talked to Tim about it at Warped. I'm glad Matt is doing well. Can't wait to see him back to doing what HE does best. 2+ Replies

I believe he had a frog in his throat. I'm glad to hear that it was successfully removed. 1+ Reply

I agree. I saw SD on the last tour, and Freeman bored like he was in class. There was no room for him to do his thing, as it were, and part of the reason I purchased a ticket was to see Freeman bass heroics.

Maybe you should purposely be admitted to the hospital for fucking around about a person's health.

What a relief. I'm glad he's doing better. Why not put together an Operation Ivy reunion tour to celebrate the good news? Please? Pretty please? 2+ Replies

Just think, if he would have left us, we'd be stuck with "Some of my friends sell records, some of my friends sell drugs" and "I don't go anywhere without my switchblade." But in all honesty, I love this guy. He's my hero. You can't beat him on bass. 4+ Replies

Why is it bad to say why he is sick? It's not like we are going to show up on his door or something. My heart goes out to him, and I hope he makes a full recovery.

At the social D shows he did look bored but thank go the man is going to be alright. rancid is great and all but Matt inspired me to play bass and in my mind is the greatest bass player of our day I don't care what genre the player is until he can play 8 notes a second like matt does then he has no equal.

Good to hear he is doing good. Tim mentioned at the Warped Tour of a new rancid album...No pressure for that to get started. Just glad to know that one of the raddest bassist is recovering nicely. Next operation, remove skinhead Rob's vocal box. God, he should be refrained from speaking or singing. 2+ Replies

who ever the fuck said they can play bass better than matt freeman will you please write me a fucking song and send it to me, and then go shoot yourself in the head with a powerful gun so you die, after I find out your dead I will listen to your song and laugh but it wont matter because you will be dead, and to all those fuckers who said matt freeman should die, go fuck your mothers. On a different note, matt freeman inspired me to play bass and now I shred, so thanks for that one and Im stoked on him not dying because I want to see Rancid play again. Operation ivy should definately re-unite because they were way better than rancid and still had matt freeman, chris 1+ Reply

I know many of you have asked us why we haven't been covering the story about Matt's health before now (aside from a passing mention in a Transplants article). The answer is very simple. We talked to Epitaph / Hellcat and it was expressed that Matt would appreciate some privacy in dealing with his condition. We respected that, and until something official was released (re: now) we continued to respect that. When it comes to entertainment news, we as the audience don't have a right to know everything all the time. That's particularly true when it comes to private matters like a person's health. -adam
