Pig Destroyer update; upcoming splits, touring and collaboration with Zombi

Grindcore act Pig Destroyer has posted an update on their plans for the next few month. The band is currently taking some time to work on new material for splits with Ipecac's Orthrelm, the Black Dahlia Murder, Rotten Sound and Premonitions of War. Also in the works is a collaboration with Relapse labelmates Zombi under the moniker Zombi Destroyer.

Besides their previously announced set on Hellfest, the band is currently booking a series of Southern California dates with Uphill Battle, Triac and Phobia. The band released their sophmore release, Terrifyer last year.

A little on the nose I guess. But still sounds very interesting. The long track that was included with Terrifyer would probably make for a good preview of what to expect.

Pig Destroyer is okay, but I think the amount of music they release is testament to how little work actually goes into this genre of music. Maybe I'm wrong, maybe they're the MF Doom of grindmetal (I think I just made that term up.) and they can spread themselves thin and still sound good...whatever.

are you serious? grindcore is one of the most difficult things to do, just because of the absolute speed involved. if i had to play drums for pd, id probably end up breaking my ankle 2 tracks in.

No, I know it's extremely technical and all...I just don't think there is a lot of forethought and planning put into what they're playing. I'm sure it's hard to do, but I can think of music that's hard to play in seconds. Probably.

A lot of grindcore bands take a few listens to get into. At first though, it's just overload, and you miss a lot of what's going on. It's obviously not for everyone, and that makes some folk believe they're special because they've "gotten" the music. I'd suggest getting in a noisy mood and listening to one of their albums a few times through.
