Yesterday, Silkworm drummer Michael Dahlquist was killed in an auto accident in Skokie, Illinois. Dahlquist and two companions -- John Glick, guitarist of the Returnables and Doug Meis, drummer of Exo and the Dials -- were stopped at a traffic light and were intentionally struck from behind by a 23-year-old woman in a failed suicide attempt. Dahlquist, Glick and Meis were all killed in the crash; they were 39, 35 and 29, respectively. The woman was not seriously injured.
Silkworm bassist/vocalist Tim Midgett confirmed Michael's passing on the band's message board earlier today. There is also a thread mourning the loss on the Electrical Audio message board, where Dahlquist was a contributor. Silkworm's last release was 2004's Touch And Go-released It'll Be Cool. Their last show was April 30 in Coumbia, Missouri. Midgett has since told the Chicago Tribune that the band is officially over. To those unfamiliar with the group's music, you can stream a song off their MySpace page, and find three MP3s at their Touch And Go page under the "Featured Clips" tab. Our deepest condolences go out to the family and friends of Mr Dahlquist, Mr. Glick and Mr. Meis. Update: A more detailed story has been posted online by the Chicago Tribune. You can view it here. I'm not familiar with the band but what an awful way to die, I feel sorry for all those people & their families. That driver should be sent to guantanamo bay to be tortured for the rest of her life, teach her a lesson not to kill other innocent people while trying to kill herself.
Someone (July 15, 2005)
wow what a fucking bitch, if your stupid enough to think your life is so god damn bad to want to kill yourself then fine be a dumb bitch and kill yourself. But to kill yourself while harming others too, fucking rediculous. 1+ Reply

Poll- now that she's suicidal AND being charged with manslaughter, will she: 1. Kill herself. 2. Attempt to kill herself. Fail. 3. Find Jesus and claim he's forgiven her. 6+ Replies

What the fuck was wrong with crashing into a telephone pole instead of human beings in a fucking car?! Stupid, selfish bitch...I hope she gets life in prison, and raped repeatedly by a fat woman named Bertha.

So I Googled the name of this woman (Jeanette Sliwinski) and here's the only result: http://www.onemodelplace.com/member.cfm?ID=52448 We ird, eh? This probably is the right person, believe it or not...how many Jeanette Sliwinskis, aged 23 (though it says 22 here it might be out of date) could there possibly be in the midwest? So incredibly fucked up. Condolences to these guys' families. Driving a car is dangerous business. 10+ Replies

This is the shittiest thing ever. My heart goes out to the family of those so selfishly killed.

I knew Doug Meis personally. He was a wonderful person and it really is a huge loss. He always had a smile on his face. The fact that such a personal decision could so drastically alter the lives of three people so drastically, and countless others as a result, is absolutely horrible and, teamed with the loss of my grandfather today, officially makes the the hardest day of living I've ever done. Here's a wonderful picture that shows Doug as everyone knew him, with a goofy smile on his face. Click here for picture 3+ Replies

This situation is so incredibly awful that I'm actually feeling physically nauseated. I cannot comprehend the absolute and complete selfishness that would lead someone to do something like this. My deepest condolences to everyone affected by this. 1+ Reply

she will spend the next 20-40 years thinking about suicide in a prison, not mental instution like some may think, i hope she gets raped by the gaurds 1+ Reply

This is awful. The only thing that would be worse is if she gets off with less than a murder conviction. Does anyone disagree that she deserved to have her home address published in that NBC5.com article? 6+ Replies

I'm not usually in favor of lawsuits, but I hope the families of the victims sue the shit out of that whore.

it's too bad she didn't think she could get help from anyone, and chose to try to kill herself but ended up just taking out three musicians that seem like stand up guys.

"Jeanette Sliwinski, 23, has been charged with three counts of first-degree murder after telling police investigating Thursday's crash at Niles Center Road that she had been in a fight with her mother and "wanted to end it all," authorities said." FUCK THIS WOMAN. seriously, why? life is pretty messed sometimes.
Anchors (July 16, 2005)
I'm not making a joke out of this, as this is the most disgusting thing I've honestly ever heard. But to this woman, I'd like to quote Silky Johnstone; "I hope all the bad things in life happen to you, and no one else but you." To the families, my utmost condolences. 1+ Reply
artlachance (July 16, 2005)
really hard to comprehend- Michael was a good friend and part of my extended family- he radiated positive energy like a child and did right by everyone he knew- I've been thinking about one Silkworm song "I Never Met a Man I didn't Like" that was Michael

First of all, suicide is weak and stupid. That being said, if you're such a weak person that you want to kill youself, LEAVE OTHERS OUT OF IT!
Dakotacore (July 16, 2005)
My condolences. I know a lot of you want this woman to die, but I would rather have her live and have to deal with what she did the rest of her life. Death would be an easy way out for her. I think it would be much worse for her to live with the fact that her selfish actions have destroyed and affected so many lives. While I did not know of the band, I can say that these guys seemed like stand-up guys and I am proud of the PNO community because for once, something like this didn't turn into a flame war and immature neanderthals weren't making light of this horrible situations. RIP

Chicago's scene has suffered a terrible loss. I've been a huge EXO fan for years and Doug was the coolest fucking guy. It baffles me how three really talented musicians and good people can lose their life while a sick, selfish woman is left to live. Fuck.
CrookedSuperhero (July 16, 2005)
This is probably the worst set of comments i've ever read on this site. It's terrible that this happened, but this women is probably very mentally unstable and ill. I'd like to see any of you think straight when you feel like that. She's going to be incarcerated for what she's done, and it's just a damn shame she felt no-one could help her before she did this. Sympathy extend to the family of the deceased. 8+ Replies

It is so natural to feel spite for the woman in this situation, and devestation over our loss. Please let it also be natural to feel joy and express gratitude for the things our friends Michael, John, and Doug brought us. Just as the circumstances of this tragedy are uncanny, anyone who knew any of these three people knew there was an element to each of their personalities that was beyond normal in terms of how positive they were, and how they embraced all the goodness life has to offer. 1+ Reply

I'd seen Silkworm since ~1990 - and I was always amazed at Michael behind the drums. First off, when he'd strip down to just his boxer shorts, and then put on oven mitts, you knew something was going to happen. I last saw them sxsw 2004, and they played as great and loud as always. If you've ever hit their site and read his commentary, you'd know that Michael was a funny person, and that that was taken away by some sick person is awful. Silkworm's records just got better and better as they matured, thus their legacy is in place. rip michael. P

Micheal was my cousin. I'd like to see this bitch die, I've got a right to watch her die if she is sentanced. She should have just slit her own wrist in her bedroom, or drive into a brick wall, there are other ways to seek attention. From what I hear, she was wearing a seat belt. Wow, what a bunch of pointless bull shit. 1+ Reply
