Thrice has begun previewing material from their upcoming full length. However, in an unusual move, rather than posting the entirety of "Image of the Invisible," the first single from the October release of Vheissu, the track posted is only a locked "portion" of the song, with the entire track to be revealed after 100,000 listeners have downloaded the portion.
You can preview the track here. (Windows Media Player on Microsoft Windows is apparently required to support the digital rights restriction technology used to lock the song.) The track comes from the band's sophomore release for Island and follow up to The Artist in the Ambulance. To support the album, Thrice has enlisted Underoath, The Bled and Veda for a tour that will visit the US and Canada. Island Records (96 comments)

the sampler that is out (clips of 7 songs) is incredible but 100,000 downloads? right guys. the whole albums' gonna leak before it gets to be that. or, someone will crack the .wma file. either way, stoked about this disc now that i've heard the sampler. 1+ Reply

that clip is probably too short to make any real judgements, but sounds like standard artist in the ambulence tunes...i dont really know what i expected, but from the way they hyped up this album...i dont know..i expected bach or something i guess - jones the bones - stevejones8770@yahoo.com 3+ Replies

i was gonna listen to it, but i'm not playing into their little game. i'm just THAT punk. it's all been downhill since the first record anyway. 1+ Reply

Being a huge fan of Thrice, I am very disappointed in them. From what I can hear it sounds great, but hard to make a judgement off 10 fucking seconds of a song. How about you give your fans what they want, the full song in Mp3 format to download. Just so typical nowadays. It's true what they are saying now, these "punk" bands are the new boy bands, all controled by these major label assholes. 1+ Reply

It's unfortunate that THRICE are getting tugged into the DRM muck, though they likely have no say about it.
Someone (September 6, 2005)
this is retarded. i have no idea what the song sounds like, all i know is one of the lyrics is "we are the image of the invisible." great way to show their depth to any potential fans, give a 30 second clip of the most boring part of a song. why don't they only play 30 seconds of the song live until they've played it for 1000000 people, too? 1+ Reply

damn, they're still around? Hope they just faded away. Hopefully NewFoundGlory will fade.
Someone (September 6, 2005)

I can see the meeting now:
Exec #1: Numbers are down with the 18-25 demographic. We need a plan.
Chorus (greek or otherwise): Yessir!
Exec #2: I know, we'll release a song from the new Thrice CD. But really, we'll only release part of it, and then, people have to download it again if they want the whole thing. Why? Because we can.
Exec #1: That's a great idea! But how can we cut out Apple?
Exec #2: Well, we can put a bunch of DRM on it and encode it as a windows media file. That way, everybody wins.
Chorus: Good idea!
Exec #2: So the plan is to encode part of the song in a bad format, then make people download it 100,000 times to allow fans to listen to the real thing, and we're cutting anyone with an iPod out of the deal. But how are we going to pitch it to the band?
Exec #1: Simple. All we tell them is that we're trying to seed the song before it gets to a show rest of comment 5+ Replies

It "unlocks" only after 100,000 listen to the half track? Wow - that is about as fucking stupid as they come.

I've always thought thrice was a good band, but this is a bitch move. The best redemption would be an amazing CD.

Pathetic marketing ploy ... and I'm a fucking Marketing Graduate. This is not cool.

bad move guys....this might be one of the most ridiculous moves I've ever seen Are they so full of themselves to think we need to EARN the right to hear their music? 100,000 plays? Did TAITA even go gold? 3+ Replies
KirbyPuckett (September 6, 2005)
This was cracked or recorded off that in minutes and uploaded onto torrent sites. I followed the link above, to push it towards 100,000 so we can get the whole thing -- which I'm sure will just be another shitty stream. - Kirby
CaveatMalefactor (September 6, 2005)
I'll just posit that it was the label's decision to do this 100K unlocking deal and not the band's. 1+ Reply

IOS was great....TAITA was a nail in the coffin. It's like these bands start mimmicking eachother collectivley....stick with your roots, that's where your 'sound' comes from. 2+ Replies

Firstly, I would have to say to the Thrice naysayers out there, get fucked assholes! Thrice is an awesome band and you're opinions will change once you have the new cd, I fucking bet. 93544 people have to download this till we can hear it for real. From what I've heard, it sounds like it would be awesome and you just know the bass was going to drop and there was going to be some crunching riffage...... but whoever thought of this idea needs to be shot. Bill Hicks said it best: "anyone here in marketing or advertising.... kill yourself.... kill yourself kill yourself kill yourself... just planting the seeds..." And to quote this porno that I saw where this slutty mum is giving advice to her slutty daughter: "Noone likes a tease"
CallingLondon (September 7, 2005)
at first i thought this was kind of a clever idea. then i realized it said 100,000, not 1000. how many people need to ask before someone links the sampler?
Someone (September 7, 2005)
Since there have been 10+ posts about the sampler... how bout someone seeds it?
Someone (September 7, 2005)
Just as the song starts to get to the melodic interlude it cuts out. At least it leaves you curious...

Fuck this shit. I like Thrice, but the new Propagandhi is coming out the same day. Thrice can eat a dick, it's all about the "progressive-thrash" that day. No singles on that album, I guarantee. 1+ Reply
Someone (September 9, 2005)
Are you guys fucking serious??? So they don't give you a whole song, so what. It is a good way, in all aspects, to promote their album. Thnk about it, 100,000 people will know about his album before it even comes out. Quit your bitching and just wait for the release date. You know it's going to be good... it's Thrice! All i can say is wow. Thrice has completely taken a HUUUGE step backwards as a band. Vheissu is nothing at all compared to TAINA or TIOS. Literally 4 of the songs are just decent. If you are expecting something amazing in this cd, your hopes will be mercilessly crushed like mine were. I'm gonna miss the good old Thrice. 1+ Reply
