Thrice has launched the first podcast with song samples, an interview and commentaries for their upcoming full length Vheissu. The album is the band's sophomore release for Island and follow up to The Artist in the Ambulance as well as their recent DVD+CD release If We Could Only See Us Now.
The podcast includes portions of three songs and is the first of four podcasts. The next three will be posted on September 27th, October 4th and October 11th respectively. You can check out Chapter 1 here [direct link.] The band previously released a DRM-restricted track with only a portion of the single, "Image of the Invisible" playable until 100,000 listeners have downloaded the portion. As of this posting, the track can be heard in its entirety. Also released over the past few weeks was a myspace stream and a registration-required streaming track. The album is due out October 18th and the band has enlisted Underoath, The Bled and Veda for the support tour that will visit the US and Canada. Island Records (33 comments)

I'm definately not a fan of this band, but I don't understand pushing all this new techonology for promotion. Yeah, podcasts are unique and everything, but I'm sure fans would rather here one or two FULL SONGS than "commentaries", clips, snips, and hype. 2+ Replies

Wow...I have a feeling Island may not have been too pleased with sales of Artist (though I don't know because it may have sold millions for all I know). But it just seems like this album is getting the living shit hyped out of it. I mean I like a good deal of Thrice's but this is just insane. I guess they're just going after a lot of cheap promotion, since I'd imagine most of the web based stuff is a good deal cheaper than videos, posters and promo CD's. But I just don't care enough to take part in all these schemes. -Dante 3+ Replies

you can tell that most people are still pissed about the 100,000 download and DRM stuff because they never fail to mention it in a Thrice posting. Hopefully this will be better than the Mark Hoppus podcast
