The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame have announced the inductees for the class of 2006. The five inductees in the artist category are the Sex Pistols, Blondie, Miles Davis, Black Sabbath, and Lynyrd Skynyrd.
The Hall of Fame Foundation will hold its induction ceremony March 13 at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in Manhattan. Inductees in recent years have included the Ramones and the Clash. Artists are eligible after at least 25 years have passed since their first record was released. Sex Pistols (131 comments)

I thought Sex Pistols and Black Sabbath were all like "fuck the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame" 3+ Replies

I know this isn't exactly punk but maybe Black Sabbath will finally get what they deserve. They've been eligible since 99 I think and haven't gotten in there yet, and I think they are as deserving as the Ramones, because music would not be the same today without either of them. I think the Ramones wouldn't have gotten in when they did if Joey didn't happen to die. So hopefully they won't wait for Ozzy to die before Sabbath get in there 4+ Replies

In other news I believe Dio should head up Sabbaths induction perfromance. I know, everyone says Ozzy era Sabbath is better. But I've seen both in recent years and while both have aged, Dio appears not to have lost his fucking mind. If they honestly want to televise and put down in history that the Black Sabbath they want remembered, was headed up by a mumbeling, barely mobile, retard, that's their business. However, we all know Dio has kept to the rock though out the years. -Dante 3+ Replies

FINALLY the Pistols get in. They've been in the list of nominations for the longest time. Miles Davis is listed primarily for his fusion stuff, Bitches Brew and the like. -adam 1+ Reply

No Stooges again? TRAVESTY! I would've thought with all the talk about them, the re-issues, and the reunion they would've cracked in this year. Are the Velvets or the MC5 in? 2+ Replies

Weird, I always thought it was "Herb Albert and the Tiajuana Brass" not "Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass." Who knew? Years ago, I went to a Jazz record shop in London, ON and asked what a good record would be to start my jazz collection with. The guy gave me Miles Davis' "Kind of Blue," and he was right, that record is fucking amazing still. b. 1+ Reply

For the best book on the Ramones read,
"On The Road With The Ramones"
http://www.ontheroadwiththeramones.com
This is a MUST-HAVE book for all Ramones fans. It's an inside look from the people who were actually there witnessing and experiencing all the extreme highs and lows of one of rock's greatest bands. The Ramones' music has influenced nearly every power pop, punk, alternative, and metal band. Monte A. Melnick served as The Ramones tour manager from their early New York club days at CBGB's in the '70s to their farewell gigs in 1996. Filled with memorabilia including photographs and interviews collected along the way, this is his view of life on the road with the band as "baby-sitter to psychiatrist, booking agent to travel agent, paymaster to van driver." It's such a fascinating read, you'll have show rest of comment 2+ Replies

its probably been said, but didnt punk and the sex pistols try to essentially destroy rock and roll of their time. i guess that this is further proof that punk music and the sex pistols were failures - ElectricPistols 3+ Replies

Fuck that. The Sex Pistols were good for helping form the foundation for punk, but they were not rock and roll hall of fame-worthy in the slightest.

is it just me or does anyone else think that the sex pistols are really overrated? don't get me wrong i love "nevermind the bollocks" but they never did anything after that. they went to tour the US and then broke up before finishing the tour. on the other hand, it would be kinda interesting is see a band that existed soley as a FU to the establishemnt get in. i wonder what johnny's speach will be like? 4+ Replies

You know, the roll n roll hall of fame is so pointless because it just lets anyone in these days, much like the baseball hall of fame. The fact that Miles Davis is just now getting inducted with this motley crew is pretty sad, considering how great his music was/still is 1+ Reply

Black Sabbath. It's about fucking time. I wonder, however, if they should be inducting Malcolm McLaren instead of the Sex Pistols. 3+ Replies

i personally don't think Blondie should be inducted into the hall of fame because she is a sell out. She went mainstream and basically screwed over the true punks. now about the sex pistols...they just don't deserve it. punk is about anarchy, protesting, riots, drinking, standing up for what you believe in. The sex pistols have none of that. The only TRUE punk band is the Clash. JOE STRUMMER was very involved with politics and foreign affairs. Just listen to their songs and then you will know true punk. Don't induct people that really don'e deserve it. -a tue punk aj 4+ Replies

the pistols deserve it -- plain and simple. and as for the clash "not selling out" -- read their cbs contract and see whether or not they sold out. regardless, both bands are awesome and have provided 2 generations of music that still changes lives. muisc w/out the pistols is much more boring. | Features

Strange, it looks like all the comments were cleared out....So I'll repost. I wonder if anyone at the induction ceremony will get all upset when Miles Davis is inducted and be like, "It's called the ROCK AND ROLL Hall of Fame". -Dante
