Paul Weller to be honoured for musical achievements; rules out Jam reunion

Paul Weller will be honored for Outstanding Contribution to Music at next year's Brit Awards. The former Jam frontman, who formed the Style Council before launching a solo career in 1991, will receive the honour at the Earls Court event in February.

The award recognizes musicians "whose influence, longevity and creativity puts them in the very top ranks of UK artists" and Weller will join previous recipients including David Bowie, Sting, U2 and Duran Duran.

In related news, Weller recently spoke to NME on the subject of a Jam reunion:

Nah that would never happen. Why would I want to go back? For nostalgic reasons? That's never good enough," he told Uncut. "My philosophy is to embrace the new day and get on with it. If The Jam reformed now it'd just be a sad cabaret and that's not what I'm about at all.

The 47-year-old vocalist released his eighth solo album, As Is Now in October.

Weller will join previous recipients including David Bowie, Sting, U2 and Duran Duran. Wow, what a fucking honor. Alright Ziggy Stardust and Spiders From Mars aside what a shite list to be a part of. U2 have been making the same album since the mid-eighties. I'm not going to say some of their stuff isn't good, but surely nothing in the last 10 to 15 years. Sting? Aside from the Police I can think of maybe 3 good songs he's done. Duran Dur-fucking-an! Are you kidding me?! I thought people only liked this band as a joke, like cheesey hair metal. Does anyone actually look back at their "contribution" to music and go, "wow, I can't imagine where the inovators of today would be without Duran Duran"? Oh my god, You guys are all Dicks! How can you abuse Paul Weller, he has done more for British music than almost anyone, its about time his genius was recognised, I want The Jam to reform more than anyone, but his solo stuff is still great.
