Adam Pfahler (Jawbreaker, J Church) on The Monday Movement

The Monday Movement will be joined by Jawbreaker drummer Adam Pfahler for a three hour tribute to the Bay Area band. The show will air on Monday April 17th from 7-10pm CST (8-11pm EST) and will be available at the show's archive page afterwards.

Pfahler's newer project Whysall Lane released their self-titled release earlier this year.

Bad Religion, Dead Kennedys, Bob Marley, Germs, Ramones, Pennywise, Propagandhi, Descendents, Black Flag, Agent Orange, Adolescents, D.I., T.S.O.L., Zero Down, The Clash, Sex Pistols, Offspting (Ignition, Smash, and Ixnay...), X, Weirdos, Strike Anywhere, Flipper... well you get the idea.

Anyway, the second guy was right, this was just flamebait. Didn't work too well becaue I didn't understand most of the posts. Examples:

1. Apparently there is some connection between hating Jawbreaker and loving Hawthorne Hights. Doesn't make much sense to me, but Okay.

2. Who the fuck is Aiden? If they're underground, then I just havn't run across them yet. If they're mainstream, then I don't have a television, I don't listen to the radio very often, and I just got the internet.

3. Who is AX7? Is that their name, or did the guy/girl just shorten their name out of lazyness?

Well you get the idea.

haha, do you live in a third world country or something? cause you sound very backward in the technology department (and music dep. since most of the bands you listed were from the 80s (but I like most of those bands better than jawbreaker anyway)). but jawbreaker is awesome.

I think that anyone with decent music tastes at least recognizes the monumental importance of this band, even if they aren't personally fans. The only reason I could see someone saying they "sucked" is if they are trend hopping scene whores.

Awesome. I can't think of many bands I'd listen to a three-hour tribute to, but this is definitely one of them.

I think I'm playing with J Church in a few months.

Jawbreaker, to me, are the most important band ever. No band, and I mean NO BAND can create such a unique legacy of their sound in 4 albums.

Orange Rhyming Dictionary is one of my favorite albums of all time, right up there with 24 Hour Revenge Therapy and Bivouac.

That seems to be a recurring thought. Orange Rhyming Dictionary was a masterpiece. Four Cornered Night was absolutely laughable and cheesy. Perfecting Loneliness was almost as good as Orange Rhyming Dictionary, but a bit overdone and corny at times.

Overall, they were a pretty awesome band.

I agree man (and I hate JTB too). I mean, you got the dark begginings of Unfun, and album SO ahead of its time. Then Bivouac, with its urgency and social awarity (if thats even a real term). By the time 24RT came out, I knew this band was gonna leave a mark, such a flawless album, the flow between tracks is bliss. And then...Dear You...what you can you say...anyone who has had the pleasure of listening to this album in a rough patch of their life would say the same thing, a perfect album. It's right up there with Unknown Pleasures.

Jawbreaker...best band ever? An opinion if any that I wish everyone would share.

Jets To Brazil was freaking awesome.
And Ithink ORD is their worst album (though still awesome). I just think they got better with each one. Four Cornered Night is awesome. Yeah, it's a bit cheesy in places, but sometimes that works.
For instance, I think we'd all agree that "All Things Good And Nice" is the cheesiest song on there. Yet, one of my favorite lines of Blake's is "To all the bands who mean what they say, it's not what you sell it's what you make."

If you were around when it came out, you wouldn't think so. It sounded overproduced and like nothing before it. I was with every record as it came out. Dear You grew on me, but I hated it on first listen. It's no 24 Hour.

I realize that. But time makes fools of us all. Dear You has been vindicated by history, and is the better album.
Don't get me wrong. 24 Hour is one of the best punk albums ever, and, as a punk album, may be better than Dear You. But Dear You is one of the best albums ever. I mean, on par with Blood On The Tracks, Pet Sounds and The White Album good.

I would still disagree. If I could save one Jawbreaker record for history sake, it would be 24 Hour. It flows better, but I'm sarcastic and downtrodden, it speaks to me. Always has.

it'd be pretty rad if he announced a reunion tour or something... i'm ont the biggest jawbreaker fan but i realize their influence and love "dear you"... i'd kill to see "accident prone" or "sluttering" live.

Adam needs to get over it, the other guys from jawbreaker moved on about 10 years ago. Yes they were an amazing band but let it go.

nah, i disagree. sure they're broken up and all, but he still puts out some unreleased and live stuff, which is awesome for everyone. and its not like he doesn't have other bands. i think he's handling it perfectly. move on musically, still keep the legacy alive through posthumous releases.

Unfun is the only Jawbreaker album I've never been able to listen to from beginning to end. I really like it, but after about 6 songs, I'm good.

I would venture to say you might "like" Jawbreaker. If you loved them the way I do, there'd be no way they could ever be overrated. Dear You is one of the best albums of all time. It changed my life, and it's changed many others.
They did things on Dear You that had never been done and have yet to be duplicated. If that album came out today, it'd still sound as mindblowing, original and inspiring as it always has. When any band writes an album that still sounds fresh and as good or better (in this case, better) than what bands are doing 11 years down the road, it's pretty much impossible to claim that they are overrated.
