Beer City Records has confirmed a report made last night by Blabbermouth.net that punk / metal crossover act D.R.I. has cancelled their upcoming U.S. tour. Guitarist Spike Cassidy's ongoing battle with colon cancer was revealed as the cause for the cancellation. A report from the band's booking agent states that Cassidy was operated on three weeks ago, however "sadly the concern is that [the cancer] spread and the medical treatment is [required immediately] and it prohibits any touring for the remainder of the year at least."
Dirty Rotten Imbeciles' U.S. tour was scheduled to start in Seattle in late May. It was to support their Live at CBGB's DVD and CD. News (45 comments)

Man, that's a bummer. Even if you're a veteran in this scene, that's still way too young to have to deal with cancer. Best of luck to him with treatment.

That really sucks. I'm kind of suprised the band didn't just get a temporary guitar player. However, I think it say something about them as a band that they're willing to cancel the entire tour. 2+ Replies

What's with everyone getting colon cancer these days? Ten years ago you never heard anything about it, now it seems everyone's getting it. And young people too, I don'tk now how old this guy was, but I read of a guy the other day who was 28 who died of it...

There is now a SPIKE CASSIDY cancer relief fund where you can donate a few bucks to help spike and his family with the financial stress that they will be facing battling cancer. It is tax deductible, and you can send a few words to spike that we will actually read.
I just donated $20 and left a few words of encouragement for spike. I cant think of a better way to spend a couple minutes and a few bucks. If I can say a few words that might put a smile on his face, and maybe pay for his meds or gas for a day, count me in. I know these guys (DRI) and believe me they are not rich. They bearly get by. Spike really deserves all we can do to help. If any of you ever met him you know what im talking about. Almost always smiling. Completely approachable. Would help you out for no reason. No ego ever.
